Also, anyone know the region lock on the US blu ray? Is it B friendly?

The U.S. Blu-ray is region A locked but you got a good region B alternative with the German edition called "Demon Hunter" which also features a 25 min Q&A with Mike Mendez and Kristina Klebe (or the Scandinavian discs).

Sony also has the rights in the UK but I don't know what they're waiting for to release it since they ran it by the BBFC board already...

It's essentially gone straight to digital streaming. Available here in the UK via Amazon. Sad state of affairs, he hasn't headlined a decent blu ray release for a new title since the Serafini films (War Pigs got one, but more based on the ensemble cast). The last company to push the titles was Anchor Bay before they went under.

I wish Mike Mendez could have recorded an audio commentary for this one (even though he gave a lot of interviews where he told background stories and anecdotes)...

Going into this film, viewers may assume that the comedic elements will likely be over the top and might even overshadow the Horror or Action in the film, but they would be horribly mistaken. The film starts off with such a powerful bang and then continually rises in action until it finally concludes with a rather explosive ending. That is not to say that this film is entirely void of cheesiness, but it is so subtle and minimal that the humor derived from it is actually appreciated and nicely breaks up the sometimes overwhelming intensity.

For some reason the French distributor really hated the finished product...

Well, there's no doubt about that when you see the DVD : crappy image quality, no features, horrible subtitles.

So my review : well, our Dolph is back as a great hero, straight from the 80's.Mike Mendez does have a great eye, and his direction is really good and energetic. No dead beat. The script is quite okay, but it hassome flaws here and there.
The main problem is the lack of money and time, 'cause you can see they had trouble shooting every page of the script (the editing is good at hiding that). Too bad they had to reshoot the end cause you see it (hair style, pick up shots ..).
I wish Mike Mendez would have another project with Dolph with a bit more money, because he's a really interesting guy (I don't know if I'm all for a Jebediah Woodley sequel though ...).
Bottom line : a cool movie. :)

That's even more of a shame if it's not even technically decent... :(
The US Blu-ray looks pristine and as far as I could quickly tell the German one does too.

Well, I might get tempted by the german blue ray once the price might be down a little ;)
