Probably hoping for too much but I'd like it if there's a John Hyams type artistry to him.

Thing is it's based on a somewhat popular first person shoot'em up videogame app so the purpose of the producers probably isn't to take too much risk in making this more artsy than it is. Notice also how many 20-25 year-old youngsters there are in the team to back up Dolph and Washington...

Written by Scott Windhauser who was a co-writer on LARCENY and writer/director on COPS AND ROBBERS with Michael Jai White and Tom Berenger which is co-produced by... R. Ellis Frazier, no doubt also helping out on this one.

Which is weird why their idea of not taking a risk is rushing out a DTV. You'd think it being an IP would have franchise potential.

It seems the game lots of downloads yet many people haven't heard of it so I guess they simply couldn't get enough funding for a decent shoot, or they dispatched it in a way the schedule still had to be quick. Even a Universal Studios DTV like KINDERGARTEN COP 2 doesn't get more than 4 weeks of shooting which used to be reserved to independent low budgets so...

Imdb changed the director to Scott Windhauser (but it's Imdb, let's wait).

It does make sense and seems realistic: Windhauser already did COPS AND ROBBERS (with MJW) that was produced by Mike Cuff (BULLET) in Mexico for Cineville International (FFC) who had announced DEAD TRIGGER to start back in January (with a February start date):

(also explains his rewriting the initial script by Heinz Treschnitzer)

Now both Cuff and Windhauser are credited, so either they co-directed it, or one took over to replace the other...

I'm not sure what you mean/are asking and don't have a proper answer anyway.

But the video game for mobile it's based on, although it got million of downloads, doesn't seem to be so well known, and given the companies involved and its 3 weeks schedule, I wouldn't expect it to be so much "bigger" than other DTVs. Just hoping for some competent directing and storytelling. Maybe a more badass version of BATTLE OF THE DAMNED although I thought it was quite good at times in terms of "mise en scène" and ensemble piece.

Interestingly the mobile game started as a paying application and was then made available for free due to piracy.

Director/producer Mike Cuff apparently "is a partner in video game technology companies and well connected in the video game industry worldwide"...
