I saw this film last night and while it still is not a 'good' film, it is a vast improvement over Dolph's recent efforts(or lack of).
The film is uber low budget but it makes the most of what little it has. It actually has a decent amount of action that isn't bad. However, the non-action scenes suffer and are truly dreadful to watch. Also you can tell no money was spent on wardrobe. It looks like all the wardrobe came from K-mart.

I actually don't mind Dolph's long hair though.

I agree...

I enjoyed Direct Action, but it had it's flaws. Mainly the extremely routine plot. Still the actionbits made it enjoyable.

That being said it represents a vast improvement over duds like Agent Red, The Minion, Jill The Ripper, The Last Warrior and Detention.

Hope you enjoyed DIRECT ACTION. I liked it quite a bit, a big improvement over DETENTION. Since you got it with SHOWDOWN and BLACKJACK it sounds like you got a good deal there. Be sure to check back in to tell us what you thought of the films.

I agree that THE DEFENDER is his best more recent film. I liked DIRECT ACTION more then DETENTION because Dolph did more hand to hand fighting and he wasn't stuck with all the kids in it. I didn't like RETROGRADE at all, it was just way too poorly made. A lot of his movies have small budgets but that doesn't mean they're bad, THE DEFENDER proves that. Hopefully THE MECHANIK will be more along the lines of THE DEFENDER.

i've seen "direct action" last friday !
it's a very good action movie ! in the 70's style ( the open creditsd is reaaly cool) ! the music is quite ok , fights scenes are good , but the directing is a little bit bad ( some camera moves ... ) !
a good dolph's movie , it makes me impatient for the defender !

The first thing that made my smile was the fact that this movie was shot in 35mm. Remember hidden agenda, agent red etc, they were shot in 16mm boosted up to 35mm later on.

Very good production and a very good start to get Dolph back to the mayor B-movie league.

Direct Action deleted shot

check out this promo reel that has been made while the film was still being edited, it contains at least one deleted shot with a line "a la Steven Seagal" where Dolph says "fuck you" after putting his shotgun on a guy's throat...
