Pasha Patriki invited by a fellow producer (and school instructor I assume) from another project to talk at the Toronto Film School

Updated synopsis from UK distributor 101 Films
https://101-films-store.myshopify.com/c ... lack-water
A faithful and longstanding CIA operative Wheeler (Jean-Claude Van Damme) has been drugged and brought aboard the Blackwater, a high security prison repurposed from a submarine. There, Wheeler is being tortured into revealing the location of a highly profitable and secret CIA dongle that allows for the decoding a drive containing information about CIA operatives around the world. Trapped on the ship and under fire, Wheeler must befriend rookie agent Cassie (Jasmine Waltz) and an ex-German agent Marco (Dolph Lundgren) in order to get off the ship alive.

Is the Variety review on the UK cover a fake one much like the one for 2017's Larceny?

It's a fake... but they'll likely update or change the cover before March.

Hm, actually you're right. But I guess this is an "official" page for the french distribution (it has similar pages about JCVD's other movie ENEMIES CLOSER and POUND OF FLESH) and they now posted three stills from the movie:

Screener review from 'Van_Chance'
http://thevandammefans.vandammefan.net/ ... view-(2018)&p=652773&viewfull=1#post652773
Just saw the film screener through my sales company.

Without getting into too much detail I will say that it's easily Van Damme's best movie since JCVD 2008. It has a sharp cinematic look and doesn't scream low budget whatsoever (except a few small things).

There is a shootout near the beginning of the film that is one of Van Damme's best shootout scenes ever. Raw and well choreographed and all real gunshots and effects. I didn't notice any CG.

That said, the movie does suffer from problems and it seems like a few different editors or producers were involved. I also didn't follow some of the plot.

In some scenes Van Damme's performance is strong and in others it isn't. Thankfully he doesn't look tired and shit like in the last few films. Dolph is great and the scenes with Van Damme are exactly what everyone is hoping for. Their one liners and jokes together are great. Great to see the guy Kilpatrick from Death Warrant as well.

Al Sapienza from the sopranos is hands down the best actor in the film and I wish more of these movies would hire talented guys like that.

One interesting thing is there is really no martial arts. There are only a couple fights which favor very gritty and raw. There may have only been 1 or two kicks in the whole movie which I actually think was a good decision. Looked like Van Damme did a lot of it himself.

Even though the movie feels inconsistent, it's a fun one and I think fans will dig it.
I heard the official trailer and release in the US will be coming soon.

Excited for this one but a also trying to be measured with my enthusiasm. Not expecting it to rank among either of their best. Just want a solid entertaining effort that goes down much smoother than Van Damme's more recent flicks.

My thoughts exactly, I can't say I'm excited or have my hopes high up for this one (ALTITUDE producers, submarine setting -- as if Franchise/Phoenician was behind it back in '98-'99), but I'll be content with a decent, enjoyable flick that is on par with what JCVD and DL deserve to work with, especially together.

Cool!
Overall, what's the average sum that those DTV releases make out of them screenings in those Middle East territories?

Not much, although there are tiny markets so it's hard to compare:
between a few thousands to $95,000 (SKIN TRADE) or $193,000 (UNISOL 4).

But symbolically it's always cool to know when there are some theatrical releases for these films, even minor.

Given the top billing cast of BLACK WATER, there probably are going to be a few, possibly in Asia and the likes...

Yeah, it's really cool to know that there are some people at least that have the chance to see them movies on the big screen at least
And yeah, hopefully we will hear some more screenings elsewhere.
