They make no profit on these limited release (making a couple thousands $$ at best), selling the rights to Dish, iTunes, Netflix and others must be quite profitable in comparison.

Financially it makes sense, but it wasn't too long ago that theaters were throwing hissy fits over some movies being made available for home viewing so close to the theatrical window.

Obviously they have made some concessions over it, but at the time it was extremely controversial.
