Warner Bros Release Dates: ‘The Flash’ & ‘Aquaman’ Moved To 2023
https://deadline.com/2022/03/warner-bro ... 234974660/

James Wan:
Working nonstop, day and night (at least 15 hours each day), on my director’s cut from my home set up. Thank god for the big desk!

AQUAMAN and the LOST KINGDOM will be released March 17, 2023.

For a movie that is nearly all visual effects, I’m thankful for the extra time needed to craft this thing right. Working with groundbreaking new technology, I’m blown away by some of the early tests coming in. I’m cautiously optimistic and excited, and can’t wait to share when the time is ready.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom: New Footage Description From CinemaCon
https://comicbook.com/dc/news/aquaman-a ... cinemacon/
"Arthur in his orange armor stands atop a stormy sea. Black Manta has a crew on a giant submarine. He's still human but wields an ancient magical power. Arthur and Orm have to team up. We see them walking through a forest. The teaser ends with Orm in front of an octopus-like mecha robot."

"It's been great. It's been fun going back into the world of Atlantis, and I hang out with the group and the gang and, and you know, and ultimately continuing with the story, the world that we created in the first one." Wan explained during the presentation. "And trying to take it to the next level. I mean, it was a big, beautiful first film, so obviously the challenge is how do you take that."

"With this film, you know, we were able to now embrace new technology that we have, where we literally captured — and it's not motion control, it's not face capturing, it's literally putting like 100 cameras on the actor and capture the performances — and then taking what they do and then applying that to a 3D versions of themselves, but their performance drive this 3D character," Wan added. "So for all the actors but also more versatile for you as a director. It is it's less painful for the actors, which makes it easier for me as well because they're not screaming and yelling at me [about] the atomic wedgie."

"It really frees up my filmmaking to do things that I've never been able to do before, and that is exciting," Wan continued.

Warner Bros Bangs DC Drum Loudly At CinemaCon With ‘Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom’ Footage, ‘Shazam! Fury Of The Gods’ Trailer
https://deadline.com/2022/04/shazam-fur ... 235010638/
Warner Bros brought a lot of DC — a lot — to its CinemaCon session Tuesday. In addition to a trailer for The Flash and Dwayne Johnson showing up to push DC League of Super-Pets and Black Adam, the cast of Shazam: Fury of the Gods stopped by with a trailer, as did James Wan who had a sizzle reel of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

[...]

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa in a taped message introduced director James Wan to the crowd, who showed up onstage and spoke with Warner Bros’ CinemaCon host Aisha Tyler. Momoa said he was “stoked to have the band back together” and added, “It’ll be the best movie of the year.”

Wan talked about the new technology he was using in the movie, putting 100 cameras on the actors and capturing their performance and then putting a 3D spin on it.

“It frees me up to do other things,” said Wan.

“I’m still in the midst of my director’s cut,” Wan told Tyler before showing off a sizzle reel that showed Black Manta coming to greater power. Lots of swirly, octopus-like underwater machines driven by the Aqua people here.

Wan said the return to Atlantis will continue the story and world that was created in first film and “take it to the next level.” That’s with “these new different kingdoms and new intense characters.”

In a video, Momoa echoed that “the characters coming in are pretty intense. Nothing else I’ve ever been a part of that’s like this.”

The release date for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is March 17, 2023.

It's just a rumor at this stage, but considering the shenanigans around the VIP trial of the moment (which I don't really care about), Amber Heard would have a smaller role in Aquaman 2. I don't know what that means about Dolph : less screentime because of this ? More screentime to cover her story-plot ?

I don't know, there was a big campaign not to cast her before production, what's for sure, whatever happened, is that this seems one of the ugliest divorce battles...

Amber Heard Says ‘Aquaman 2’ Role Got Cut Down: Action Scenes Were ‘Taken Away’
https://variety.com/2022/film/news/ambe ... 235268959/
Lawyer: Have you participated in Aquaman 2?

Heard: I have.

Lawyer: And tell us about that.

Heard: I had to fight to--I fought really hard to stay in the movie. They didn’t want to include me in the film.

Lawyer: Were you ultimately able to film in Aquaman 2?

Heard: A very pared down version of that role, yes.

Lawyer: What if anything changed in the script?

Heard: I was given a script. And then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch.

Source:

According to late-April test screenings, Heard would have about 10 minutes of screen time...

Walter Hamada, the president of DC Films at Warner Brothers, testified in Johnny Depp's defamation trial against Amber Heard that her role in "Aquaman 2" was not diminished because of Depp, but was always planned to be diminished because of a lack of chemistry between Heard and star Jason Momoa, as well as the editorial direction the film was taking.

https://variety.com/2022/film/news/ambe ... 235276182/
Walter Hamada, the head of Warner Bros.’ DC unit, was the first witness called by Depp’s side as they begin their rebuttal of Heard’s counterclaim in court in Fairfax, Va. Appearing by video deposition, Hamada testified that the abuse allegations played no role in casting decisions in “Aquaman 2.”

However, he said the studio did delay picking up its option for several weeks as it considered whether to recast the role of Mera, who was Aquaman’s love interest in the first film.

“They didn’t have a lot of chemistry together,” Hamada said. “Editorially they were able to make that relationship work in the first movie, but there was a concern that it took a lot of effort to get there.”

Hamada said that the chemistry was created in post-production, using “movie magic,” including the film’s score. He said it is not uncommon for two leads to lack chemistry.

“You know it when you see it, and the chemistry wasn’t there,” he said.

Heard was paid $1 million for the first “Aquaman,” and $2 million for the sequel. That pay was consistent with her original contract, but Heard’s agent has testified that she should have been able to renegotiate for more money due to the global success of the first film. However, Hamada testified that under his leadership at DC Films, he has made a point of not automatically renegotiating for sequels.

“A big part of our philosophy was we were going to hold people to their options,” he said.

Hamada said that “Aquaman 2” — due out next year — was conceived as a “buddy comedy” between Momoa and Patrick Wilson, who plays King Orm, Aquaman’s half-brother. Heard has alleged that her role was “pared down” considerably over time, but Hamada testified it has remained static since the film was first developed in 2018.

Claims from various sources (supposedly close to the production) diverge on whether Amber Heard's role will be reduced, or entirely recast and reshot:
Amber Heard is being cut out of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (aka Aquaman 2) and her role of Mera will be recast, sources exclusively tell JustJared.com.
https://www.justjared.com/2022/06/14/am ... exclusive/

“Warner Bros. decided to recast Amber Heard‘s role after screentesting the movie. They are going to be doing reshoots with Jason Momoa and Nicole Kidman,” the insider shared to Just Jared, adding that the new actress would play Mera in Aquaman 2 and any future DC films.
UPDATE: Sources close to the Aquaman production have shot us an update, saying, “Amber has not been completely cut from the film. She still has a very small role.” Our other sources still say Amber will be recast but we’ll update our readers as more information rolls in.

EDIT/UPDATE:
Amber Heard Not Fired From ‘Aquaman 2,’ Despite Viral Report
Despite a report that Amber Heard was fired from her role as Mera in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” a source tells Variety that she has not been cut from the movie.

A spokesperson for Heard said in a statement to Variety, “The rumor mill continues as it has from day one — inaccurate, insensitive and slightly insane.”

No such thing as bad press in Hollyweird. If anything it will probably drive a few more people to see the movie just to see her on screen.

Rumor has it that the release date might be pushed back once more:
The Batgirl news comes ahead of Warner Bros. Discovery’s earnings call Thursday, with rumors swirling that Warners is considering moving the release dates for two of its upcoming films — Shazam! Fury of the Gods (currently slated for Dec. 21) and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (currently set for March 17, 2023). On Wednesday, the studio revealed an October 2024 date for the Joker sequel, Joker: Folie a Deux.

The real life heroics of Jason Momoa
https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/culture/a ... iew-dune-3
For Momoa’s whole life, water has been where he feels safe and the place he always seems to come back to. But when he was approached by director Zack Synder about starring in the 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he couldn’t envisage someone who looked like him being given the chance to play DC comics' resident king of the sea. “When Zack told me he wanted me to play Aquaman, I was like, ‘What? that’s like the farthest thing [from what I thought] I would ever be’. Then he laid it out and I thought, ‘Why can’t it be someone of Polynesian descent?’”

He took to the role like a 6”4, 200 lb man to water, landing a standalone eponymous movie alongside Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson and Amber Heard two years later. In the Justice League films, Aquaman is part of a gang of heroes tackling intergalactic threats, but his own film franchise has taken on a new life as a thinly-veiled metaphor for the destruction of the planet. Aquaman lays the blame for polluting the world on the behaviour of humankind, lamenting as the skies burn and the oceans boil. “These superhero movies dominate our market, which I have my own thoughts on because I love cinema, but we try to put out a positive message and go on an adventure,” he says. “Aquaman is the most made-fun-of superhero in the world. But it’s amazing to be able to bring awareness of what is happening to our planet. It’s not some story that’s been told over and over, [it’s a] movie about what’s happening right now but in a fantasy world.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will be released next year, leans further into climate change allegory. Surprisingly, then, it’s also “a lot funnier” than its predecessor, Momoa says. “I have a great time with… there’s a lot of…. It’s a throwback to…” he says, buffering as his brain calculates what he’s actually allowed to reveal. “I don’t want to give too much away. But we really get to speed up what is going to happen to this earth, and it’s not because of aliens.”

The sequel features a scene in which Aquaman’s alter-ego Arthur Curry gives a grand speech to the UN warning them of the disaster looming on the horizon. Things came full circle for the actor earlier this year when he addressed the real United Nations himself. Momoa was at the UN’s Ocean Conference in June in Lisbon; his daughter Lola, 15, and son Nakoa-Wolf, 13, who he shares with his ex-wife Lisa Bonet, were both seated in the front row. At the end of the talk they were called on in the audience to answer the final question – “What do you think we can do right now to change the world?” – which they took on as though they’d been asked where the toilet was. “It made me feel extremely proud seeing them speak for themselves and take this heavy moment in,” Momoa says. “I’m not as young as I used to be. It’s scary having kids and knowing what is going to happen to our planet if we don’t change shit now.”

The release date has now been pushed to December 25, 2023 (hence 9 months later than the previous March date):

AQUAMAN & The Lost Kingdom moving to Christmas Day 2023. I’m a bit superstitious and I love that it’s a December release like the first one!
Here is a small glimpse of some artwork into the big, epic world-building we’re creating, and I need the time to do it right. These images barely scratch the surface of this movie (haven’t even shown the weird and wonderful characters and creatures of this world yet). I can’t wait to show, but you have to wait just a little bit longer ;)

In regards to Ben Afleck's appearance as Batman, Michael Keaton had apparently already shot an appearance before they reshot it with Afleck...

EDIT:
Reportedly, Warner Bros. Discovery, by trying to save $3 billion, has lost $20 billion in market cap...
