I dream for this one to make it to bluray one day. One of the best Dolph movies in my opinion.

Yeah it deserves a beautiful cinemascope transfer which most countries have not benefited on DVD...

Could have SILENT TRIGGER been directed by (and starring?) Rutger Hauer?!

Is this French edition DVD the one I want to get?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DVD-ASSASSIN-WAR ... _954wt_941

Is the picture nice and widescreen and subs removable?

Yes, except that the subs are forced and the main titles in French.

Otherwise the other viable option is this German bootleg is made out of the French DVD edited with the (VHS source?) English (an stylized) main titles with removables subs

Is the main video quality the same between the two? Don't mind about the French title opening sequence as long as the dialogue is English. I can re-author the DVD with the subs removed as well, like I did for The Peacemaker and JCVD Full Contact/Lionheart/AWOL disc, as long as they aren't burnt into the video!

Rather make my own bootleg than pay someone else for theirs, particularly at 18 Euro ;)

Yes, the picture quality is the same (since they're made from the same source).

SUPERVISOR:
That's the order, he didn't terminate the target, he's EXPENDABLE!

Interesting thing is, Waxman (as named in the script) is not as crazy as Jensen (rather paranoid and questioning, full of guilt and remorse, existential questions) but he's also kind of burned out, "life's got to him" too.

This has to be one of my favorite films of Dolph. Russell Mulcahy knows how to direct action and does great with Dolph. The film clearly has a limited budget, but they make it work quite effectively by making the most of one stellar location and setting. I honestly think that the setting is what makes the film. Sure, there's really only four characters and the bad guys are all stock villains meant to be blown away... But for some reason it all works. I love this movie.

Some of the CGI were cheap but they had a decent budget (~$10 million range) and did a lot of work on the production design and the look of the movie, thanks to Alex McDowell the visual designer (who worked on CRYING FREEMAN, THE CROW, DARK CITY, FIGHT CLUB, WATCHMEN).
