I am a big Lundgren fan but he hasn't done much to impress me lately. I didn't think much of either "Hidden Agenda" or "Detention" but after reading the early word on "The Defender" I thought it would be worth trying to track down the DVD. The time spent looking for a good overseas source for this movie was well worth it. "The Defender" is the best Dolph movie I have seen since "Army of One." It may have a small budget but Lundgren the director has more style than any of his recent directors have had and it shows in the finished product. This movie may have had a smaller budget than Van Damme's "Wake of Death" or Seagal's "Into the Sun" but "The Defender" is better than both of those movies.
I'm hoping I will enjoy "Direct Action" when it comes to the states in June. I like the plot but having the same director as "Detention" does lower my expectations a bit. I will definitely look forward to the next time Lundgren is both behind and in front of the camera.
