Haha... probably not me... without wanting to offend anybody's life choices, let's just say the themes of the film do not appeal to me at all. But hey, I'm still wiling to pass o the info to the film's fans.

Have you seen it though?
I have yet to see the 1986 original film with Harvey Keitel and Keith Caradine which seemed maybe more intellectually more interesting. The story is about questioning faith and events related to us. What I blame on this remake is to take a kind of cheesy and "too nice" tone and approach. It's about questioning the life and death of Christ yet it's aimed at Christians (and Fox released it under their short lived Christian label). And I'm not going into the treatments of fights and violence (or the lack of). The production value isn't bad at all, the cast is top notch on paper, the script writer is well known for "peplums" novels and stories... It seems to me that it's made with a kind of naive approach (is it typically Italian?), maybe not so well edited (even the long version), and that the RAI TV channel probably had a lot to say as well about the treatment.

Well, I'm an athiest, so...
As for the tone of the film, I dunno, I'm only aware of Italian cinema through spaghetti westerns. What other work has Guilio Base done?

I am too but that's not the point.
Base is an actor initially but has been directing for 20 years and has done quite of these religious-themed movies and TV series, one of them breaking records of market share in Italy.
But cannot make THE NAME OF THE ROSE whoever wanna...

Actually, to be fair, Name Of The Rose is an excellent film, religious or not.

It's worth seeing if it's on television. It's not going to appeal to those who are looking for action savvy material and Dolph doesn't get to do much. However, I can't say it's unwatchable either, just don't expect some Hollywood epic or enough drama. It's got way too much going on but it's not confusing either. It could easily be labeled as forgettable but it wasn't the biggest time waster if I recall right.

For the completists who want to see more (and good in my opinion) scenes with Dolph, the extended cut is only available on this Czech edition (to my knowledge, and it features the English sound track) https://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Inquiry-Ex ... 004RXB1D6/

The opening battle sequence was clearly much longer, and I wish we'd seen what was cut out of Brixos and his "tribe"
