I'm pretty sure this has to do with the European co-production financing model, with Canal Plus, Arco Films and Polygram and some of the institutions involved, it was almost guaranteed a limited release in most European countries (it was also good for quotas was maybe even contractual). (btw MEN OF WAR went theatrical almost everywhere in Europe except the UK and Germany)

Maruschka Detmers and John Ashton guests of the Karlovy Festival (Czech Republic) in July 1995 where THE SHOOTER premiered out of competition (I supposed Dolph was filming SILENT TRIGGER at that time)

I wonder what the difference will be between this and the previous DVD relsease.

Also, there is a new triple feature DVD coming out. Is the DVD quality of these OK or are they very compressed?

Probably no difference at all, Echo Bridge Ent. licensed 250 titles from the Miramax catalogue to re-release them at a cheap price so I doubt they make new masters for those...

I just bought the 3 pack at Wal-Mart for $5. Hopefully they aren't compressed from fitting them all on one DVD.

I'm not crazy about Blackjack or Men of War, but Hidden Assassin is a fav.

That set is a double sided disc, two films on one side and one on the other.

I watched the new DVD release of this last night.

I am watching the Dutch uncut version on youtube and it has a lot of dialogue that explains things a lot better.

Yep the international uncut version (15mins) is obviously much better and gives you more insights about the characters and plot (and no house / dance song in the end credits but the orchestral score by Stefano Mainetti)... Damn you Miramax for re-cutting it!

I love the dance song at the end and the flashbacks of her on the dance floor and then how he walks off after thinking about here.

If that's the region 1 as it seems, then a it's a good quality original aspect ratio widescreen transfer but it's the short cut (89mins).

Sorry if it got covered off already, but I watchd this again the other night and noticed that Billy Ray helped write this. Is it the same Billy Ray who wrote State of Play, Flightplan and others?

I think so, THE SHOOTER went his way earlier in his career, I believe he was brought in to rewrite Yves André Martin and Meg Thayer's original screenplay.
