Definitely not uncommon especially since many Nu Image and Artisan (now Lionsgate) productions would take stuff that had been rejected by Sony, Paramount or even Cannon Films originally penned in the 80s.

I don't think it's a perfect film obviously but it could've turned out way better had the main villain stopped monologuing every other minute a la Hans Gruber style and just let the film develop more naturally.

It's also wild how at the beginning when Dolph is in the opening battle scene, it looks like some of those shots suspiciously later appeared int he following year's The Defender.

You can tell it's totally different footage apart from the similar uniform...

Then perhaps he reused some of the props and uniform. Or maybe they were just deleted scenes that he requested to use?

It's a common uniform, and there's behind the scenes pics and footage for this sequence of THE DEFENDER.

DETENTION is in session! New episode is here, this time discussing Dolph battling drug runners and teaching history in 2003’s DETENTION! Nathan Burt joins me to discuss this absurd film. While it’s certainly not one of Dolph’s better films, it is interesting to note due to how it sets things in motion later on in his career! Enjoy!

About to start filming 20 years ago...

Dolph's first film post-9/11, replacing the former projects LEGION and ALIEN AGENT (which Sidney Furie was previously attached to after Roger Christian)...
