Thanks to the economy, the US to Canadian currency exchange is pretty close, I believe Canada still provides a bigger tax incentive though. With many actors forsaking an upfront salary for partial rights to the film outright, I'm sure Dolph will make due with whatever they give him.

Hollywood North: Lundgren signs on for action thriller

Most people will remember the Swedish actor Dolph Lundgren as Sylvester Stallone's Russian opponent, Ivan Drago, in Rocky IV. He got the part after a nine-month audition process that involved 5,000 hopefuls. Now Vancouver-based Insight Film Studios has signed on the fleshy actor to both direct and act in Icarus, a $6-million action thriller.

Insight president/executive producer Kirk Shaw recently flew Lundgren in to have dinner, meet with a local scriptwriter, scout locations and seal the deal. "We're writing the script to location which can be a little more cost effective," said Shaw, who added the script has just come in and it looks good.

Filming is set to begin in October and last for about five weeks.

I wonder if this'll be the same film Lundgren wrote, or whether his script is being put on the backburner and they're just using the title. Some of the synopsis out there seem to suggest a far simpler idea than Lundgren's 3 piece assassin story.

Perhaps he will finish Command Performance and quickly shoot Icarus back to back and then go back after filming and do the post for Command Performance..does this sound realistic?

Well CP will still be in the early stages of post, and his editor would have already started during the shoot, so I guess he could be more distant with it for a few weeks... and hey Spielberg shot SCHINDLER'S LIST while still doing post on JURASSIC PARK! But if the production of CP ends Sept 20th and ICARUS starts say October 20th or even 25th, it doesn't seem enough time to (well) prep even though anything's possible I guess. We'll see...

I hope that he takes the time he needs for Icarus because two directorial projects in a row should mean two great movies in a row and we still have Direct Contact. You did say that Direct Contact had a short post-production time but then again, it could have been editing during the shooting also which would have given it more time. Don't know why I thought this but I only thought they edited during the shoot on big budget movies like Quantum of Solace that had a six month shoot or were only finished filming a month or so before the release date, also like in the case of Quantum of Solace. I think its a good idea, because it can mean ideas and inspiration are still fresh, can give an idea of what the film will look like and determine if any other shots are needed..just answered my own question didn't I?

Yes DC was being cut while filming but this is now common procedure to have an editor starting and "assembly" cut during the production... doesn't make the post-production any quicker... Like anything else (writing, design etc) you can have a film finished quickly, but if you really polish (which is what it more time consuming) then it's takes time/months (an average of six for a feature)... To wrap filming mid-march and finish mid/end june for an MPAA rating early july just sounds way too short.

Time will tell I guess, the stills look good for Direct Contact and Dolph seems to be positive about it in interviews. How long was Missionary Man in post for?

6-7 months.

Jeez, I remember it being a long time but there is a lot of difference between MM and DC. I just hope DC doesn't have any bad dubbing ala Steven Seagal..

Well as long as there is no dubbing I think the only thing we have to worry about is the editing and the score.
