THE PEACEKEEPER is one that I was real close to digging but it just didn't quite measure up. Might be tempted to pick up this edition. Too bad they couldn't have paired it with another of his that isn't already on blu. SWEEPERS would have been nice.

By the way the subtitles should not be forced.

I think some of the cheesy and humorous aspects of THE PEACEKEEPER were not understood, I haven't seen the interview yet but I think Forestier wanted to kind of make fun of it and almost make it slightly satiric à la DR STRANGELOVE...

Yes, I would have loved to get SWEEPERS as well, but it wasn't chosen to pair up with MOW because it's not as commercial, the VHS and DVD sales back then were really low here unfortunately. Glad to have THE PEACEKEEPER though, it's much better it seems and way above other DIE HARD knock offs.

Compared to what these low budget action films have become, this new Blu-ray release shall easily rehabilitate the movie and make it look like a big budget blockbuster in regards to nowadays lazy outputs, more especially for those abroad who had only seen it in 4/3 full screen. Granted the shooting script didn't bring much new onto the table and it's cheesy and cheap at times but overall it looks bigger and well shot.

Remember that like SILENT TRIGGER (handled by the same Canadian co-producers) and despite very few 1996-1997 CGI effects, THE PEACEKEEPER was the same budget as previous theatrical DL films and featured a lot of miniatures and practical effects which would have looked terrible if it had been made today.

Did they use a generic English transfer, or are the title cards French?

There never was a French title card even on the VHS (and the subtitles are removable)

I just saw a control disc and this is the best the movie was ever shown outside of the theatrical releases. The film is presented in widescreen 1.85:1 aspect ratio and the HD master really shows off how the movie wasn't that cheap, especially compared to nowadays DTV it almost looks like a blockbuster despite its flaws.

It's a true rediscovery of the film...

Fantastic! Will it be a single or double disc set, do you know? Obviously, that will be quite a lot of compression.

It will be a single 50GB disc so it should be fine compression-wise.

I can testify, the one disc / two features by Metropolitan is a good deal (I have the nemesis / Mean Guns one, and it's a good BluRay).

It's amazing to think, at the time the mainstream would look at those $10m budgeted DTV films from former theatrical stars and slam them as a huge downgrade. In hindsight, quite amusing.
