Nice, brother! And you're right, Big D does take on different styles in all his directorial efforts but still seems to have a certain "something" that ties them together. He is still very young as a director but he was competent from the start (The Defender). I guess he is learning how to direct different (but related) genres and he will definitely only get better.

It's also nice just to hear someone talk "seriously" about DL's movies (even though I, myself rarely do) (cuz I'm a retard).

I AM flattering our host - I have no shame.

Since the DVD does have forced subtitles, then the Blu-Ray most likely does as well. But there should be a way to rip it without the subtitles, which is what I'm gonna do with my DVD.

OK the US BD is region coded A.
The German version is cut for violence.
The french has forced subtitles.
Is there a BD which has region code B or codefree, uncut, and no forced subtitles!

Command Performance is a really good movie.

SPOILER ALERT!

I basically agree with all the reviewers that liked the film as far as it's strengths and weaknesses. The only thing I miss in a lot of reviews is a little more appreciation for the script, it's very good for this kind of flick. Well balanced. The dialogue is fine. Enough little subplots to keep it interesting throughout. Maybe they could have paid off all the subplots a little better , the Prez and his kids, the "dread lock fan boy" (and his mother) etc. It would have been nice since they all had little story arcs. But all things considered it was really good.

I am (as usual) not that excited about the score. Adam Nordén is getting better at his craft and i am sure it sounds exactly like he wants it to. If it was a thriller he would have been spot on with the ambient, suggestive sounds uses. But it slows the movie down a lot. Command Performance should have had a more energetic score and DEFINITELY incorporated rock/metal influences. Not ALL ambient all the time. You've got to get the audience PUMPED too! It's an eighties throwback flick with a rock theme! Have some fun with it, Adam!

You're right and that's what I miss from the script and little things that have been cut here and there cuz there was a little more about the "dread lock fan boy" for instance and he wasn't just thrown out in there randomly.

I know how you feel, I personally like Nordén's music and I actually thought his score for THE DEFENDER was better, more fun and more texture to it. I think this one is still fairly good especially in the dramatic scenes, it sounds a lot like the COLLATERAL score. Regarding the rock/metal influences I agree, although it would have worked only if the film was less "in between fun and serious" (and more a la GHOST OF MARS for instance). But as Nordén said in my interview, he thought about it for a second but he and Dolph only talked about incorporating lots of drums etc.

I actually agree that The Defender had a better score, more suited for the action. It's a little rougher than Command Performance. Plus, it has that strange "porn music" during the "waiting" scene, and it's pretty funny and unique (not sure if that's what he was going for...).

The CD score would have been PERFECT for a "Collateral " kind of movie!

Having a rock/metal influenced score and NOT have it sound funny is VERY difficult, but it can be done. Many action movies use entire hardcore/metal songs for big fight scenes but incorporating the standard instrumentation for a rock band into the score and making it sound cool is HARD. Like, just, striking a big power chord on the guitar for effect is very comical, you'd have to find other ways to make it work.

"more drums, etc" sounds just right. A percussive score is, of course, the standard way to enhance action for a reason. But they opted out of it. Too bad. It would have helped. In my humble opinion. It's not a bad score though, it's just kinda unenergetic for this kind of movie.

The Canadians took the lame ass French title for Quebec. I kinda like their cover though, not perfect but a good try. (to be released March 16, 2010)

And here's the cover from Argentina

i saw the movie three times. there are so many parts that i like. i like the part where D is smoking weed - (i wonder if he was really stoned or just pretending); the part where he fights the head terrorist to rescue the "presidents daughter" towards the end of the movie was real cool. i love the choice in heavy metal music the "CMF" band or (D2-in real life - i forget their name). if i was 20 and into heavy metal music again i would be curious about this band. i might search for their album in the future. i think Dolph really played drums for the band for that song in a real concert. i thought (in the teaser trailer) that the concert was just for the movie - but it looks like to me that the concert was real. i think the action is great. i think the head terrorist guy is great for his part. the movie is great. it really delivers good stuff. there is no fluff in there (like stupid stuff), the action is real good. i think it's interesting to see the behind the scenes before the movie was made and then the actual movie. acting is an interesting profession. this movie, like all the others just makes me want to keep on watching all the D's future movies. i truly like it :D .

I love how some reviews show they haven't checked the whole disc (or even movie):
Extras

Not much. Just an interview with Lundgren and behind the scenes fight footage.

i can't stop watching the movie and laughing at the script of the head terrorist (Kananov - i think is his name). i watched the movie 5 times and about to go onto my 6th.

Mikhail Kapiste (presidential security) - (on behalf of his injured buddy who just insulted the head terrorist - Kananov): "he needs a doctor!"
Kananov: (looking at the injured friend) "he needs . . . . a coffin"

With all due respect to Melissa Smith, i love the way the head terrorist (Kananov) refers to her character as the "tv bitch"

When the 'president' was taken hostage and the other guy asks the head terrorist (Kananov): "What is it that you want. we can give you anything"; and Kananov replies . . .
Kananov: "Let's see. a new Mercedes, some fu...in junk food, a flat screen tv, how about that Venus bitches latest CD". soooo funny. he is so perfect for his role. Dolph should make more terrorist movies with actors like Kananov - he is soooo funny.
