I'm hoping Arrow will eventually release this in the UK.

One can dream but if they do, they have to put their hand on a vintage 35mm print (only foundable in France as far I know) or interpositive unrated extended version to restore it in HD...

I assume they'd use the print used by Shout Factory.

I do too, but I still dream they would treat it seriously and go beyond the Shout! Factory edition to offer both versions (I know it's not DONNIE DARKO's 4K ultimate boxet but still). ;)

The extended cut is the one I discovered on the big screen and stand by so even though I now have a decent custom DVD of it I still hope to get on HD someday...

So now Nameless Media puts out a 3rd (!) edition in a big 'hard' box (like the VHS ones)...
with a new booklet and the announced Vic Armstrong interview that didn't make the cut into the Mediabook edition!
I feel so ripped off on this one, probably won't buy from them anymore, "fan edition" my ass...

Jox, right now I have this edition of Joshua Tree:

What is the difference with the new Media Book Edition? Would you recommend to buy the new one? Thanks!

I've only heard bad things about the one you have (bad transfer, missing scenes) unfortunately...

Any other (Shout Factory or Nameless Media) will be great (quality and special features wise which are the same). If you get the German one you can also get it in standard Amaray case which is much cheaper is the same (except for the mediabook booklet and photo-cards).

People often bring up the Western/Bogart theme but this was always lost on me. I always so JT as a Hitchcockian "wrong man" kinda movie.

But that's just me.

Bogart was more linked to the film noir genre to which HIGH SIERRA belongs (although one could argue it kind of segways into a bit of a western at the end). I think JT is a hybrid, the "wronged man" theme is definitely there, and the writer originally saw it as an early John Dahl flick à la KILL ME AGAIN or RED ROCK WEST, while the attachment of Dolph and Vic Armstrong brought it into the high octane action vein as well, while the setting of the Joshua Tree desert and Joel Goldsmith's music underscore the western genre.

It's interesting to note that 20th Century Fox had bought it for a good number of territories but only mostly released it on VHS...

There's a screening of the uncut version in Paris, but with unrespectful happenning during the movie, so it might not be for everyone.

It's at a rock bar where they host VHS / DVD screenings of B, C, Z movies on a video projector with people usually laughing. I went to one of those for SHOWDOWN a few years ago, won't do that again...

Meanwhile I realise the movie was shot 25 years ago this summer.

(and the French theatrical release was on this day August 4, 1993 - extended cut)
