At this point, I'll believe it when the cameras are officially rolling. Sly and the producers really have themselves to blame. The first one was pretty much on par with what the entire gimmick of the film should have been -- the old action guys from yesterday teaming up and blowing s*@t up. As I stated on the podcast, I think that EX2 put in a little too much humor, but the film still worked. By EX3 though, the series became a full blown parody of itself. Which is fine if that's what the intent of the series was supposed to be... which it wasn't.

Dolph's gotta pay the bills, and even with the stellar year he's going to have thanks to CREED II and AQUAMAN, I can't imagine that he'd say no, even for a cameo (which in the end is pretty much what the roles in these films become), but at this point, I'd say it's done. Sly should have really stuck to basics and not threw in all the needless "young guys" who lended no personality or style to the film.

Sly's latest Insta post makes you wonder if he's considering hiring Wu Jing, star and writer-director of WOLF WARRIOR 2, to helm THE EXPENDABLES 4.

We know how much he loved THE RAID and failed at imitating it with EX3's final showdown, so he might still be trying to go in that direction... Or maybe he just wants him to be cast in the film...

Wait and see.

For me, that would be bad news : Wolf Warrior two was a hideous movie. Some descent action scenes, but ugly as hell, and with poor editing, and poor photography.
I rather see Wu Jing as a co-star (he has some kind of charisma and is a good hero) and action coordinator than a director.

According to trades, RAMBO V seems to be back on and first in line for Sly though, with production reportedly beginning in September

Well, I'd rather see Dolph in the sequel to Hitman's Bodyguard (opposite Ryan Reynolds, in a funny but action packed movie) than in another Expendables. But that's my opinion.

Couldn't stand HITMAN'S BODYGUARD. Humor was so grating.

Actually Dolph would've made a good Hellboy. Hopefully he can parlay CREED 2 into some other high-profile films.

It's hard to get excited about the potential future high-profile projects for Dolph, after the post-EXPENDABLES aftermath and disappointments.

But the double-bill momentum of CREED II and AQUAMAN should not only be overly enjoyable for us but also raise his profile in the mainstream conscientiousness a little more and in a different light that EXP did...

My main fear is that again he would attract offers from suspicious producers and directors with no vision but easy cash and bad taste.

I also wonder what made them hold up EX4 and put RAMBO V back on tracks instead...?

If EX4 ultimately still happen one day, it's really gotta be with no concessions.

It'll be cheaper to do than EX4. The last Rambo had a reported budget of $50 million and I'd be surprised if this new one is much higher than that. Also RAMBO V is mainly just dependent on Sly's interest and availability whereas the EX films have to take into account a bigger array of cast members and trying to juggle everyone's schedule.

I read one site today that claimed RAMBO V would be filming right after EX4 this summer but it's obvious that while EX4 is still something Avi Lerner wants to do it's not going to film in 2018 (sorry, Randy Couture).

I doubt the RAMBO IV budget was even $50 million, especially with being shot in Thailand, $25-30 million is more like it, but fore sure unless they make it a SAVING PRIVATE RYAN type epic it's not gonna cost more, probably even less since Sly's ideas for it always seem to be on a smaller scale than the previous entry (and it's Nu Image/Millennium we're talking about, every penny counts despite their inflated reported budgets)...

Right, I didn't think of that...

The Hellboy series would be the most ideal out of that lot. Gothic horror/pulpy adventure would be something different.

Now handled by Millennium and without Guillermo Del Toro, I don't know how HELLBOY is gonna turn out...
