EDIT
CALIFORNIA JOE

Set in the turn of the century, Swede Cody and his partner "Little Phil" are finishing decades of bounty hunting while creating a library of successful "Dime-Store" novels based on their adventures under the name of "California Joe". But as Cody begins to face the reality of his more truthful and dirty past, the heroic fiction of his alter ego in their stories quickly begins to fade. Discovering the daughter he left behind as a child has suddenly vanished sends Joe and Phil on one last hunt where past and present collide and he will write a final chapter of violence none of his stories would ever come close to.

A CLASSIC WESTERN FOR A MODERN AUDIENCE

LIKE THE RECENTLY LAUDED "POWER OF THE DOG" AND "OLD HENRY", "CALIFORNIA JOE" BRINGS THE DRAMATIC NUANCE OF STORY TELLING TOGEHER WITH THE GRITTY VIOLENCE OF ACTION FILMS

SCREENPLAY: Complete

ATTATCHED: Dolph Lundgren, Clint Howard

BuBUDGET: 1.7 million

Interesting.
The meta aspect with ”dime store novels” portrayal of the west colliding with the brutal truth is straight out of ”Unforgiven”. Seems ambitious and perhaps a bit convoluted but I can really see this working in the right hands.
Clint Howard is a great character Actor and him and Dolph together would be a treat.
Far from becoming reality I guess.
Are they shopping this in Cannes?
