Phantom Raiders (1988)
Director: Dan Harvey and Sonny Sanders
Miles O'Keeffe is Python Lang who along with a specially trained team sent into Vietnam after a senior officer in the U.S. Special Forces declared missing in action has been photographed in a camp where the "communist terrorists" (quoted directly from the film, now you understand the type of film it is) is trained.
The team consists of Python, cool name ... a young specially trained agent who is the son of the senior officer and three Vietnam veterans. Now follow the mandatory training that should be a mix of guerrilla warfare, commando training and ninja (a montage of scenes) where espcially the three Vietnam veterans leads me to draw a smile. One of them is tall, overweight is probably the word ... Well, they do not directly look like soldiers so to speak.
Then they are sent to Vietnam on his top secret mission, it is more or less non stop action. I believe that at least two Vietnamese die every time one of our heroes fires their weapons. Film's body count is somewhat hysterical. Now this is not a film to take seriously, take it as a moment of entertainment, look beyond abysmal actors, poor management, logical gaps and poor, and enjoy a moment of crazy fillipino action.
The movie gets five apples out of ten possible. (just because I like crazy fillipino action)
Final Reprisal (1988)
Director: Teddy Page
Early action reel with Gary Daniels made in Fillipinerna.
The film takes its beginning in the Vietnam war when Gary Daniels in the role of David Callahan leads a special squad of U.S. Marines sent in behind enemy lines to perform a secret mission. Everything goes straight to hell and the film makes a jump in five years into the future and now lives in Thailand as a secret advisor of the Thai Special Forces. He lives there with wife and children and everything is fine, but his past soon catches up with him.
This film is clearly better than Phantom Raiders, better action sequences (Gary Daniels may repeatedly demonstrate their skills in the Martial Arts and so pushed it a lot) etc.
the DVD edition I bought is UNCUT, you can see the difference in picture quality in the scenes when restored the previously cut scenes are in the movie. But it does not matter.
Eight out of ten apples possible.
Get Smart (2008)
Director: Peter Segal
Very entertaining action comedy with bla Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnson.
Eight out of ten apples possible.
