Phantom Raiders (1988)
Director: Dan Harvey and Sonny Sanders
Miles O'Keeffe is Python Lang who along with a specially trained team sent into Vietnam after a senior officer in the U.S. Special Forces declared missing in action has been photographed in a camp where the "communist terrorists" (quoted directly from the film, now you understand the type of film it is) is trained.
The team consists of Python, cool name ... a young specially trained agent who is the son of the senior officer and three Vietnam veterans. Now follow the mandatory training that should be a mix of guerrilla warfare, commando training and ninja (a montage of scenes) where espcially the three Vietnam veterans leads me to draw a smile. One of them is tall, overweight is probably the word ... Well, they do not directly look like soldiers so to speak.
Then they are sent to Vietnam on his top secret mission, it is more or less non stop action. I believe that at least two Vietnamese die every time one of our heroes fires their weapons. Film's body count is somewhat hysterical. Now this is not a film to take seriously, take it as a moment of entertainment, look beyond abysmal actors, poor management, logical gaps and poor, and enjoy a moment of crazy fillipino action.
The movie gets five apples out of ten possible. (just because I like crazy fillipino action)

Final Reprisal (1988)
Director: Teddy Page
Early action reel with Gary Daniels made in Fillipinerna.
The film takes its beginning in the Vietnam war when Gary Daniels in the role of David Callahan leads a special squad of U.S. Marines sent in behind enemy lines to perform a secret mission. Everything goes straight to hell and the film makes a jump in five years into the future and now lives in Thailand as a secret advisor of the Thai Special Forces. He lives there with wife and children and everything is fine, but his past soon catches up with him.
This film is clearly better than Phantom Raiders, better action sequences (Gary Daniels may repeatedly demonstrate their skills in the Martial Arts and so pushed it a lot) etc.
the DVD edition I bought is UNCUT, you can see the difference in picture quality in the scenes when restored the previously cut scenes are in the movie. But it does not matter.
Eight out of ten apples possible.

Get Smart (2008)
Director: Peter Segal
Very entertaining action comedy with bla Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnson.

Babylon A.D. (2008)
Director: Mathieu Kassovitz
Ok as entertainment for the moment, some cool looking scenes but the film makes a fairly pale impression.
Four apples of ten possible.

Dead Men Do not Wear Plaid (1982)
Director: Carl Reiner
Black and White comedy which is a tribute to detectivemovies from the 1940s with Steve Martin and Rachel Ward. Really fun and classic crazy humor signed Steve Martin. Burt Lancaster and Humphrey Bogart and many more appear in the movie through editing.

Agree on your Babylon A.D. review. And I totally loooooove Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid! I have it on DVD and just yesterday I spent half of the evening watching old Steve Martin pieces and interviews on youtube. The guy is so great and I love the tricks he can do.

leigh: Haven't seen Against The Dark (never even heard of it before). Agree on the others. Wonder what the Wachowsky brothers have smoked / taken in order to create such colourful images. But the movie was at leas half an hour too long and the story wasn't that good. The little kid was annoying. At least Matthew Fox was adorable.

"XIII" (2008)
Mini-series based on the french magazine "XIII". 3 hours long, divided in two parts, really good and exciting.
According to IMDB, this is the first season so I hope that it will continue!

I watch, roughly, four hours of porn a day, does that count? What are the rules of this game?

P.S. By "four hours" I mean; "twelve hours"

Equalizer 2000 (1986)
Director: Cirio H. Santiago
Fillipino post Apocalypse / crazy action with Richard Norton in one of the leading roles, the other is the six barrelled-miracle weapon called Equalizer 2000. Water-thin-characters populate this movie, the script can probably be summarized in just under half a4 page, but this is about action (they seem to have a lot of automatic weapons despite the fact that it had years ago our civilization gone under). As usual in Cirio H. Santiago 's films seem to weapons contain infinite ammunition (I do not think they reload once in the entire movie). But now, this is not a serious film a la the excellent Threads (1984), but it is entertainment for the moment and as such it works ok.

Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead (2008)
Director: Louis Morneau
Had no direct expectations when I started to look at this, so I was pleasantly surprised. Rusty Nail is back, he is even more SADISTIC and calculating this time.
Eight out of ten apples possible.

Saw V (2008)
Director: David Hackl
The fifth movie in the seemingly endless story of Jigsaw. Clearly better than I expect, will see the next film, too ...
Seven apples of ten possible

Friday the 13th (2009)
Director: Marcus Nispel
The film flying start to then calm down a bit. High speed and thus very well all the way, the craft is at the top. The movie was violent but without excessive gore and contains surprisingly much nudity.
Derek Mears is one of the best Jason we have seen .
