ICARUS / THE KILLING MACHINE (Dolph Lundgren, 2009)

Well after he's done with THE EXPENDABLES he's gonna have to post ICARUS, promote COMMAND PERFORMANCE and whatnot... It's never over in show business!

If IMDB is correct, ICARUS is being shot on HDCAM SR which is an HD format mostly used for broadcast, series and TV movies.

If that's the case I'm pretty sure it's not Dolph's or his DP's first choice, meaning that there's probably budget constraints (or they needed to spend the money somewhere else or thought it would help them go through a tight schedule). In any case, I really hope it's gonna be another MISSIONARY MAN type situation where Dolph doesn't get full support from his producers (honestly all their stuff seems like cheap exploitation) and therefore has to do compromises that will alter the end quality of the project... so cross fingers I'm wrong because that would be too bad to come all this way, have a kick ass COMMAND and then go three steps back with ICARUS (which should come out probably around the same time as THE EXPENDABLES or later if the release gets delayed)

Hmm I hope that we don't get another MM situation too. Dolph did a fantastic job, he really did, with what he had but the cheapness does show in some scenes. I think Cinetel are another one of those companies that don't really give a fuck about the end product as long as they make their buck. Dolph is better off directing with Nu Image, they give him fair budgets. Don't want to be a pest Jox, but will we see some first set pics or something soon?

Eh, this TV-movie camera business kinda bugs me, but if you look at the Charles Bronson tv-movie Family of Cops, then it won't look too bad, I suppose. I just hope the action direction is well done and not just the director with a coffee saying "roll camera"

I though this was a Sony pictures backing, i'm confused??
I just checked cinetel films, they are production company of kill switch and detonador and some made for TV low budget movies, I'm worried about this one??

I rather see Dolph work with Sony or Lions gate.
Is Nu image sony Pictures???

The Mechanik and Missionary Man were both by Sony and it turned out very good movies with Cool DVD covers, that is why Sony is better for Dolph.

OK wait. This is a very good professional HD camera and HD today can make great results (especially if it ends up on DVD or Blu-Ray), most of you probably won't even see the difference. It's just not 35mm film that's all. So let's not be too pessimistic about this (I didn't want to bring up this detail at first and now I'm thinking "damn this board is turning into the VD forum!")

You're kinda mixing everything up so:

- ICARUS is produced by Cinetel Films (selling the film for worldwide distribution just like Nu Image does) and Insight Film Studios (big Vancouver studio)

- Nu Image and Sony Pictures are totally different companies except that they often deal together and Sony distributes some Nu Images titles (Sony deals with Cinetel as well)

-Nu Image produced THE MECHANIK that Sony then released. Then Sony wanted to have Dolph make a movie for them so they (cheaply) produced/financed MISSIONARY MAN and distributed it worldwide as well.

Sony can be good for Dolph as releasing company, but they did a very sloppy job producing MISSIONARY MAN for which they didn't care expect about the profits they could make from it.

I don´t know about that but there IS a differencein what kind of camera and or film is being used to shoot a movie. If it ends up looking too "television" it rubs off on how you perceive it, whether you want it to or not. They had to mess around with Missionary Man quite a bit, in post, to make it look OK and even then it still had that TV look to it. We just want everything to be as good as it possible can be. Having said that I don´t KNOW how it´s going to end up looking, maybe it´ll look great.

Finally.....it was getting a wee bit annoying.

Just booked a movie called Icarus. Shooting here in Vancouver. Dolph Lundgren is the lead and the director. Never understood how one can do both well, but it happens all the time. If you have a good 1st AD and DOP.

Kind of a actiony, espionage thing. I play an ex-CIA Arms dealer. It is actually kinda neat because the role was written for a man. For whatever reason, they changed their minds and wanted to cast a woman. Well, i read like a guy sometimes so it all worked out. I am his buddy who he works with for many years but i turn a little dirty in the end.....not going to tell you the story but there is some asskicking going on.

Met him. Nice guy. Gentle...and HUGE. 6"5 i think? 285 lbs? and built. Which makes me wonder how they did the camera angles in Rocky 4 because this guy would pulverize Sylvester Stallone. Gotta hand it to him, he may be in his 50s but you'd' never know it and he is in wicked shape. He is the perfect human specimen. If we were to send a human into outerspace to represent the human race, my vote would be Dolph.

Looking forward to it. We shoot next week...i'll let you know how it goes. Just happy to be working again....feels like forever.

Dolph looks cool in a suit nice pictures, it's looking good, i can't believe we are already seeing pictures from Icarus and i have to wait still for June 2 for direct contact and comand performance and US3 and now Icarus is looking awesome
