Interesting read. I think Langella's Skeletor will always stand out from the film. I honestly never feared the character until seeing the movie. That somehow makes up for a lot of the other faults mentioned by the author. Oh yes, and Dolph made He-man look marvellous in a cape. I never would have thought of him that way. :)

I personally thought that the makeup was great in MOTU, especially considering it came out in '87... That was my big gripe with SPIDER-MAN (2002). The mask that Dafoe wore as the Green Goblin looked ridiculous. I think the film would have had a much more sinister villain if producers went with a makeup scheme similar to how Langella looked as Skeletor. Imagine how badass that would've looked with Dafoe resembling a goblin... Rather than a Power Ranger villain... Just my thoughts anyways...

I know one big thing they were keen on was to let the make-up/mask show Langella's expressions and performance show.

Remember Pigboy aka Richard Szponder, the kid who own the Mattel contest to appear in the movie? Here's an interview about this experience on the set and some great pictures!

That'll be it!

Even back then Dolph sounded awesome. It's not like he's had to learn humility, like to some extent Van Damme, and even Sly have.

Nice outfits. I think there was a charm about 80's fantasy film making. The cosmetics, outfits and even puppets were so hand-crafted.

I used to wonder if they'll make a She-Ra movie.

Great interview. Sounds like Mattel went all out to give the family a fun experience in southern California. Masters is one of my favorite movies of all time, let alone Dolph flicks. Hmm, perhaps it's time for an 80's night. Pizza and Masters... I'm happy a sequel with that jerk off surfer Laird Hamilton never filmed a frame.

I know. Now they make those sort of films purely to market towards teenagers. There's also a bit of laziness to many films because of CGI.

Give me MOTD, Labyrinth, Krull, Legend, Time Bandits, Dark Crystal, Willow. 80's Fantasy was brilliant...even when it was crap. 8)

Amen!

Not related to the movie, there's currently an exhibition in LA called "Under The Influence: He-Man and the Masters Of The Universe"

Thanks pal! Funny how I live here but heard about it through a web board by a Frenchman. Checked out the gallery though, it's right next to legendary comic book store Golden Apple on Melrose. The mock up of Castle Grayskull was awesome, I want it in my house!
