THE MINION (Jean-Marc Piché, 1998)

Post by Craigie-Boy »

Does anybody have any idea when The Minion is due to be released on DVD in the UK? I remember reading in a DVD mag some time ago that it was scheduled for a release toward the end of March, and also the HMV website states that it is currently in stock, but I've still never seen a single copy on the shelves.
I already have it on video, but would like to get the DVD as well - any word on whether it will feature any extras? Seems like most of Dolph's R2 DVDs are lucky to even include the trailer; The Peacekeeper, Storm Catcher and Hidden Agenda are all totally devoid of extras, unlike their R1 counterparts.
Can anybody elaborate?

I'm quite curious what you people could tell me about this movie, since I finally found a place in the Netherlands where I can get it from. I hear some bad things about The Minion, but I would like to know what you guys think. How is the movie acting/actionwise?

It's a classic and worth getting if you can. They constantly show it on TV here and I've got the VHS version, one day I'll convince myself to pony up the cash for the DVD version if I find a place selling it with affordable shipping charges.

I really like this movie. Maybe because it's mixing fantasy and action. it's not perfect, but it does have a good "ambiance" and the music is quite interesting (mostly guitares if my memory's right). The supporting cast is also quite good. Good movie.

This should have been MUCH better, originally more like a real horror movie, but the final product is very bad, again one of Dolph's worst.

Well I guess Michele Soavi would have been a better choice than mister Piché (so I guess it's not you jox that wrote the review on D-U).

You're right, I've left all the original reviews from Blaine (who gave me the site to take over) up until HIDDEN AGENDA. I thought about writing my owns but never took the time to do it (which reminds me I'm late with the recent ones).

I think The Minion is just plain boring.

But what is the overall tone of the movie? Gritty, deadserious action, or does it have some lighthearted humoristic elements?

French re-release this October with a simple yet classy cover for once (maybe to make people confuse with the Nic Cage flick SEASON OF THE WITCH which has almost the same title in French: "the last templar") 8)
