I'm starting to wonder if Stallone and Van Damme are both in on this, making up some feud that will create free publicity for the movie. I don't know, some of what they allegedly said just sounds so ... strange? I mean, Van Damme refusing to lose against Jet Li, and suggesting a movie about inner city politics to Stallone? Or perhaps it is real, which I guess we'll never know unless they decide to reveal it someday. Liking Stallones comment on maybe casting Van Damme for the the sequel, though. He may be an idiot for turning down the part, but he is still an actionhero. :D

Speaking of publicity, I've noticed that on many of the websites I regularly read, there's been a surprising amount of comments claiming Dolph, for them personally, to one of the main "draws" of the Expendables, citing him being an action star, "genius" intellect (with the degree in Chemical Engineering and all), martial arts champion, olympics trainer, charismatic personality and so on. I'm not exaggerating, either. Alot of these people, though most of them has probably never seen a Dolph movie besides the obvious ones like Rocky IV and Universal Soldier, are fascinated by him, and looking forward to seeing him in the Expendables. It seems to be a general concensus that he is one of those underrated stars, someone that deserved yet never got the "big break", the role or the roles that would have launched him into the superstardom, in his case joining the likes of Stallone, Schwarzenegger and Willis. So I would say he's has gotten a good reputation lately, which is further confirmation of the fact that he is finally going through a real, actual comeback. Let's hope he gets to be the scene-stealer of the Expendables, and that new, big and exciting offers is coming his way ...

The trailer is on the Apple trailer page now (good to read Lundgren on a mainstream movie poster, even a thumbnail)

I don't think Sly used this for publicity, and well Van Damme is a very strange man, if you could just hear some of the stuff he says in French interviews it's nonsense all over the place, the guy doesn't have much rationality left in his brain, he's touching but he lives on a cloud.

 Okay, I'll take your word for it. Now I kinda wanna hear more about this "inner-city-politics" idea Van Damme had, could have been awesome with the same cast as the Expendables.

Well we should be thankful to JC that he declined the part because dolph wouldn't be in this movie if JC accepted.

I don't think so, Van Damme or not, Dolph's role has been tailored for him except for the fights with Jet Li, and I'm sure Sly would have called his long time buddy anyway especially given the fact it really is an all action star cast/movie. When Dolph has been announced, Sheldon Lettich told on the Van Damme forum that JC turned it down, and everybody assumed Dolph was just here because of Van Damme declining...

Yes agreed. It seems many parts were added in, taken out, and altered, depending on casting. I think it's safe to assume, Dolph was always going to be offered a part. Sly has said as much too.

I also just feel, even if JC had come on board as well, Dolph would still have stolen his thunder on the film. I think he's probably put more into his role, than JC would have ever given thought too for a supporting role. And I think that's in part down to JC's ego and way of thinking.

It's also good to see that Gunnar Jensen seems to have a lot more arc and character development any of the others, who are either plain good or plain bad, and pretty much playing themselves as far as Statham and Li are concerned. So you can consider that as a treat to Dolph on Sly's behalf!

Exactly, Gunnar Jensen is practically written to be a scene-stealer, or even a breakout character, if we're lucky .

Oh man, reading your discussion here makes me so nervous... HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT UNTIL AUGUST?!?!?!

But I will see them both. A-Team and The Expendables. Only that I'll watch The Expendables about 20 times more.

Japanese trailer:

Wow ... that was ... well, he sounded excited, didn't he? Atleast it's different from all the standard american trailers, plus it highlights all the "big names" in an amusing way :) .
