There are moments of hilarity – and there are good performances turned in by most of the cast, including Lundgren as a self-help guru with a horrible spray tan and slicked back hair with a shoe polish sheen. He actually looks a lot like Mit Romney in this role, so maybe there’s a biopic in it for him if enough people are forced to watch the rest of this too-weird-to-be-enjoyable film.
Dolph Lundgren (the latter in eye-poppingly bizarre wardrobe) expands the film's mental-illness themes, suggesting in the end that perhaps self-determination matters more than what those around us would call "sanity."
spray-tanned Dolph Lundgren, unexpectedly hilarious as an egotistical pop psychologist who preaches the gospel of “brain brawn.
http://tapintoaustin2012.com/articles/small-apartments/The slow-moving Small Apartments, is, as the title implies a small film, but one that sports an impressive A-list cast and, despite the Coen Brothers-esque darkness of the plot,an ultimately uplifting message.
SMALL APARTMENTS (Casting by, Kim Coleman & Bonnie Timmermann) How can you not love Matt Lucas?! He is so funny, smart, precise and committed as an actor that I could watch him read a phone book and I would probably think it was the most exciting thing to happen to me that day (I am sad like that). What a great ensemble cast! Even Dolph Lundgren made sense in this, and that’s saying a lot. Peter Stormare’s cameo, playing a mostly dead character was genius and Juno Temple, Amanda Plummer, Johnny Knoxville and James Caan all were colorful and real. Rebel Wilson’s small role as Johnny Knoxville’s girlfriend really impressed me. I like her a lot.
