I've seen these, there's a few on ebay... apparently the widescreen is true, and there are special features (Trailer, biographies, poster galleries).

When I purchased a High Land bootleg thinking that this was the best version existing, I was quite disappointed by its poor video quality. It was in the correct ratio (2.35:1) but the video quality was noticeably so much worse than R1. Does anybody know whether the Brazilian version has hardcoded subtitle? If not, this may be the best version existing and I'd like to buy it. Looks like it's region free but I am not sure how to get this. I looked into Ebay Brazil and couldn't figure out whether they ship internationally (I'm in Canada).

Well we don't know what material this Brazilian edition used, it may be the very same version...

Jox is probably the best person to confirm this, but I believe the High Land version is made up of the opening titles from a full frame version (the weird squashed ratio seems like a jimmied and blown-up 4:3), tacked on to the Assassin Warrior print (which has quite low contrast but is still a decent print), and then synched with another english audio track.

Yes the HIgh Land bootleg is made of the French "Assassin Warrior" edition and of 4/3 (VHS?) for the main titles.

Director Russell Mulcahy himself acknowledges this (or French edition) is the best version out there (apart from the main credits), and the closest to his vision (dark and gritty, not flashy highlighted colors like the U.S. one), he was so pleased to find out about its existence.

I'd have to check again but I think U.S. version is cropped and not open matte.

Actually, that's really interesting; I think the brighter print really does Silent Trigger a disservice. Not only does it highlight the composite and visual effects shots, but it makes everything a bit too gaudy. I like the look of the French edition. I'd love to hear Mulcahy's thoughts on the movie.

A lot of directors and cinematographers will tell you that their film has been brighten up for the video/DVD release (especially for DTV) which looks nothing like you would have seen in a theater, but in the case of the VHS & DVDs of SILENT TRIGGER this has been pushed to the extreme!

Mulcahy is actually quite fond of ST, he didn't put it in his demo reel actually because of the bad U.S. color correction and incorrect format ratio.

I'm a massive Mulcahy fan, even from way back in the Razorback days. I think he did a fantastic job with Silent Trigger; It's almost arthouse action... kind of like a stage play in a lot of respects. It's VERY unusual for a genre film to have only four characters.

I agree and the arc of the story for each is also compelling enough to carry the film with the action in between. Def one of my fav's
