Good lord! Going back to Minion, what is your preferred version of the film, and what's the best DVD edition in your eyes?

At some point I thought the newer version (with prologue and more "classical" score, details and captures here) was a better but I take back this assessment and much prefer the previous cut (which is not a director's cut either).

As for best edition, it's a draw since none is widescreen apart from the trailer on the Canadian one, there are no extras. So pick between the US one or Canadian because the other ones like French and German are dubbed only, and the HK one is very badly encoded.

Or there's a new German edition with both cuts in it, I don't know how is the quality except it's 4/3 as well and the initial cut is in English but the newer one is in German...

The thing about the Blu Ray Of this (and Shooter and BoD) is that I do understand that it's only an SD quality, which for me is less of a step-down than when we were getting VHS source material produced on DVD... I'm fine with the quality.

But it's on DVD as well, you don't need to get the fake "Blu-ray" edition. Or wait for an actual widescreen edition to come out some day...

(By the way, I gracefully uploaded the making of THE DEFENDER (as well as a few others) for those who don't have the right editions but nobody seems to care, reply or think it's more interesting or cooler, than the good old debate "what's worse, THE MINION or THE LAST PATROL"... It's like when people ask questions about infos are on the site, not that it matters that I've been spending the past 10 years digging and posting thorough and rare infos but few are those who really went trough it... Sorry about the rant....)

Okay then, since that's what we're on, who did watch THE MINION, THE LAST PATROL or shall add AGENT RED (beginning to end) more than once or twice to make these assessments?

THE DEFENDER is leaps and bounds better than THE MINION. Not only is it a better Dolph Lundgren movie, but it's simply a great action movie. In my eyes, THE DEFENDER can be credited as one of the films where Dolph took back charge of his career and started putting together solid, serious, not to mention gritty action films again. He was in a bit of a slump throughout the late-90's-early 2000's, hence AGENT RED, MINION, LAST PATROL.

Now, everyone knows that it's so much more fun picking apart a BAD film than a good film. THE DEFENDER is a great film. There's really not much else to say about it. But MINION? LAST PATROL? These are both so laughably bad, that one can't help but discuss it. Is it beating a dead horse? Sure, but it's fun.

As to answer the last question, I have unfortunately sat through each film a couple times. AGENT RED with the director's commentary in fact... While both MINION and LAST PATROL are bad, AGENT RED takes the cake. MINION and LAST PATROL are notable because they are different and trying somethhin new... especially LAST PATROL... The last 20 minutes of that one is so bizarre that one wonders if there was even a script... if there was, how many versions were crafted into the final product...

But AGENT RED is so lazy and poorly produced, written, acted, and directed, that it's really not even that much fun to watch. Dolph clearly doesn't give a crap about it... His attitude is extremely evident. Lowest point in his career.

I've watched Agent Red 1.5 times. Does that count? I make up for that by watching Red Scorpion at least twice per year and Men of War at least once.

Why the hell would I watch totally crappy movies more than once? (And yes, I know that many people outside this forum would go back to the last paragraph and call that a contradiction.) 8)
