I'm glad to hear that.
This is actually fairly common. For example at Cannes this year a company announced that they had signed Nicolas Cage for a horror/thriller they were selling. The next day they had to issue an apology saying that they had not signed Cage yet, but were in talks with him.
Sales agents and production companies usually "leak" information or just flat out issue a press release when they are in the final stages of negotiations with a star.
That way they can get buyers and investors coming forward, and they can see if the star in question truly is good for sales, also after the news breaks and people from all around the world read about it, the star in question is more likely to sign the contract, they sort of pressure him into it.
It's all Hollywood BS politics.
This time they really jumped the gun though.
