Hey folks, been a long lurker on this forum and finally decided to join being a fan of Dolph and a huge fan of 89' Punisher film. I have heavily enjoyed reading through this thread on The Punisher 1989 and seen some really awesome things such as DVD/Blu-Ray sets I have never come across before. So I tip my hat to all of you for loving this film and keeping it alive with discussion and great stories and information regarding it.

I have come to you all with a large favor and search of information regarding Dolph's Punisher costume.

I was wondering if at all possible I could get some scans or screencaps anyone might have stored giving me the best look of Dolph's costume in the film. I've been researching extensively for several weeks after finally decided to take on the task of making a replica costume of Dolph's Punisher as my next project. I've studied the costume for years always loving the look of it regardless of the missing skull, but after extensive research I do realize this is going to be a large challenge to achieve due to hardly any information whatsoever regarding the items used assembling his costume. I believe I have worked out a few things such as the pants, but I need some great shots of them beyond what my DVD can offer to be sure just how close they match. Also the ones located are actually vintage leather coverall/pants, I have observed in the shots of him being on table tortured by Lady Tanaka that their are indeed straps on his pants, but I cannot tell if these are a custom addition or hardly anything about them, but I believe the straps were removed when filming the scenes at the Yakuza Tower as the straps would be noticeable under the tight fitting shirt Dolph wears. I'm content to be without them but the pants found are quite expensive and I want to see on a 1-10 scare how accurate before I purchase them and have my guy at the local leather shop modify them for me.

Ironically my all time favorite piece of the costume is the boots worn by Dolph. Loved them since I was a kid. I've exhausted many sources on trying to find any information on them besides the idea they are a generic or very rare type of Motocross boot. The only shots you get of the full boot is again during the Yakuza tower scenes in which he doesn't wear the leather gaiters covering the boots. I have found two diferent pair of vintage motocross boots that are similar but not quite there. The soles, buckles and facial fronts on the boots are still quite different. Considering I think the leather gaiters covering the boots looks far better than when they are fully exposed the only problem I face is matching the soles and metal attachments to Dolph's boots. I have no really good photo's that can be of any help in fabricating replica pieces to custom make a pair of boots like Dolph's.

So any information you guys have on anything regarding his clothing would be a tremendous help and greatly appreciated. Sorry about the long post, I'm just in great need of fellow fans of Dolph's Punisher and hope you guys would be interested in assisting me on the project. I'll enclose some photo's of what I have collected in my research. By all means feel free to weigh in with your opinions about any of the research I have done with your own advice and knowledge.

These are the screencaps I have taken personally to study Dolph's boots, but they are honestly piss poor.

These are the Overall/Pants I located that I think look very similar to Dolph's the only questionable thing being the knee pads.

The two styles of boots I have found that closest resemble Dolph's but still far from the actual thing.

Hey thanks for your post and welcome! Glad you decided to join and say hi (to all silent readers please do so)!

Dolph's costumes aren''t my forte of knowledge (should contact costumer Norma Moriceau) but send me an email, I could hook you up with a high-res version of the poster which might help you.

Good luck with the costume and post photos when you're done!

I took a large amount of new screenshots of the film, they aren't the best but gave me enough to be able to start on the costume. Here's a few.

This is a Fox property now?

I thought New World and Vestron were bought up by Lionsgate.

Some went to Anchor Bay, but Lionsgate (Artisan) did the ancient DVD.

So...Anchor Bay = Fox? Another Fox movie, Volcano from 1997, is getting released by Anchor Bay soon.

Actually MGM/Fox I think.

You know rights for these independent movies come and go, it's been nearly 15 years (about the average time the contracts are made for) since the Artisan DVD and not so long ago all the rights had expired, there was some kind of legal loophole when a French company tried release it and no one seemed to know where they went probably because no one licensed them...

CINEMATHEQUE PRESS RELEASE -- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 18, 2013

UW CINEMATHEQUE WELCOMES MARK GOLDBLATT IN PERSON!
ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATED FILM EDITOR & DIRECTOR WILL PRESENT SCREENING OF THE PUNISHER

On September 20th, the UW Cinematheque will welcome noted film editor, director and UW-Madison alum Mark Goldblatt (class of 1970) to the UW Madison campus. Mr. Goldblatt’s editing credits include such contemporary action classics as THE TERMINATOR, COMMANDO, RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II, STARSHIP TROOPERS, RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, BAD BOYS 2, PEARL HARBOR and TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY, which earned him an Academy Award nomination in 1992. He most recently served as editor on the still-in-release PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS.

In his days at UW-Madison, Goldblatt was an instrumental programmer with the WUD Film Committee. In the late 1970s, he began his career as an editor with Roger Corman’s New World Pictures, working on such films as Ron Howard’s feature directorial debut, GRAND THEFT AUTO and Joe Dante’s PIRANHA.

In the late 1980s, Goldblatt himself turned to directing with two features for New World Pictures. His second feature, THE PUNISHER, was the first of three separate adaptations of the Marvel comic book character. It stars Dolph Lundgren in the title role. On Friday, September 20th, at 7 p.m., in 4070 Vilas Hall, Mark Goldblatt will introduce THE PUNISHER. After the screening, Goldblatt will discuss the film and his career in Hollywood.

As always, all screenings are free and open to the public. Please see below for a complete description of this special program
THE PUNISHER will screen at:

4070 Vilas Hall
821 University Ave
Madison, WI 53706

Admission free for all screenings, seating limited.

THE PUNISHER - Mark Goldblatt in person!
USA, Australia | 1989 | 35mm | 89 min.
Director: Mark Goldblatt
Cast: Dolph Lundgren, Louis Gossett Jr., Jeroen Krabbé
In one of the big-screen’s first attempts to bring a Marvel comic book to life, Lundgren plays Frank Castle, a cop who is transformed into the vengeful title character when his family is wiped out by criminals. When The Punisher takes on the Japanese mob that’s taking over his city, his former partner (Gossett) moves in to stop the vigilante. Fun and fast-moving, director Mark Goldblatt’s second feature is told in the same hyper-violent, yet classical, style that marked the great action movies of the 1980s. It was a style that Goldblatt helped to create through his influential work as an editor on such key entries in the genre such as The Terminator, Commando and Rambo. Goldblatt, a UW Madison alum, will join us in person to discuss his film and career in Hollywood. Print courtesy of the Academy Film Archive.

See you at the Movies!

I've got questions about the movie:
While Barry Otto's character Shake walks into the tunnel looking for The Punisher (smwh 27:00) saying "Hello! Hello! Come out, come out, where you are!" he says something that I can't undersand. Can somebody spell what he says? No big deal, but just wonder what he says. Thanks!

And then after that The Punisher suddenly appears, Shake says:
"You know, with your flavor introduce you should consider a career in the theatre".

Did I spell it right?

He says "Bubble bubble toil and trouble. I better get out of here on the double." Not really sure why he says "Bubble bubble" first but the line is a variation of "Double double toil and trouble" from Macbeth which goes with the whole failed actor persona of Shake.

Then after Lundgren appears he says "With your flair for entrances you should consider a career in the theater."
