Well, this one is just not of Dolph's best to be honest. It's cheap and not to smart zombie-action without any "wow" moments. Exept Dolph it's nothing to see here(.

Watched this last night and I enjoyed it. Of course, I watched BLOOD OF REDEMPTION last week so anything would seem better after that mess. ;-) Unlike REDEMPTION, this actually looked like a real film and the director actually built some tension and created a nice, gloomy city setting. Not among Dolph's greatest, but a lot of fun for 90 minutes.

It's a satellite broadcast premiere, WOWOW being one of the two top broadcast companies in Japan.

As BOTD will get screened at the prestigious Sitges festival next Saturday, it got a an exclusive poster for it!

I wonder if Anchor Bay will try a limited theatrical release in the States...

P.S. I hope Anchor Bay is not gonna call it in the U.S. "Dolph Lundgren is Max Gatling: Battle of the Damned" like they did "Dolph Lundgren is the Killing Machine"...

I thought this was stupid fun. The middle part of the film dragged a bit but the hilarity of the robots and the decent zombies ("they aren't zombies!") kept the flow going.

I finally saw BOTD this week-end and really liked it.

Apart from a lack of sound design in some scenes, choppy editing and weird/ugly acceleration movements like we see in video games and movies these days, I thought it actually had the ambition to be a "REAL MOVIE" and not a DTV of the week. It shows in the writing, pace, cinematography (especially in quiet night scenes which are nicely lit) and structure. I don't get the bad comments about the secondary characters and their acting, they didn't annoy me at all, worked well and were quite compelling for me, unlike in 90% movies of this type... Even the robots work despite not being well justified (like how they got there etc). Even Dolph's got to play a little differently and shows some nice bits in his acting which isn't phony like in a lot of recent work where he does his Eastwood caricature...

Slightly upgraded version of the first poster:

The Sitges fest screening went very well and the audience was cheering Dolph.

Jeff Pruit, Smiley and stunt rigger on BOTD (his credits include being the stunt coordinator on BUFFY and Jeff Wincott's stunt double):
Budomate: Your latest movie is Battle of the Damned with Dolph Lundgren, how was it to work with a Big Swede? Don’t you think zombie topic is a closed issue like vampires and gods?

Jeff: If you see the movie you may notice that for the first 10 minutes or so Dolph and I are jogging all over town. At the time his ankles were killing him from a previous movie and my knees were killing me. I just remember him looking at me and saying, “No need to sprint here. Just go slow.” And I thought, “Thank God he wants to jog slow because I couldn’t sprint right now if my life depended on it.”

I got so tired of vampires after BUFFY that I couldn’t watch anything with vampires in it for a long time. And magical gods were usually boring to me. Zombies I like as long as the show is interesting. I prefer good sci-fi writing that gives an explanation for the unusual happenings in the story. Image
