Well Dolph's cut was definitely darker from what I've seen, and I saw a still from a deleted scene with his daughter towards the end (at the barn), but I never heard about her illness and death so I dunno. The producers cut also ends with her but who knows if it's not a happy ending scene they forced Dolph to shoot...

I can't believe you're at ICARUS already, seems like yesterday that you started the podcast!

Regarding the look of the film, indeed this was the first DL film to be shot in digital (if we don't count US REGENERATION), DIRECT CONTACT and COMMAND PERFORMANCE were still filmed on 35mm film. And for ICARUS they chose the Panavision Genesis camera which was probably not as good as the RED.

Also, Dolph and his DP had intended to give the film a darker, more "film noir" look with the color grading, but that never happened since we know the movie was taken away and completed by the producers...

Rewatched this for the first time since its initial release. Of Dolph's credited directorial efforts this is definitely the weakest one for me, it's just ok, I certainly wouldn't call it an outright bad film because of Dolph's flare for violence. But I understand a lot of it was out of his control. I think in trying to make it mimic contemporary network television of the time some of it comes off as very cheesy and silly. The flashy editing for the scene transitions doesn't mesh with Dolph's more introverted, grimmer performance. I feel like the recent Bob Odenkirk Nobody films seem to have copied the idea of boring family man who is secretly a killer cheesy action movie idea that the producers wanted to do with this film.
