Are you able to reveal what company is distributing it?

Don't know how big or limited it will be yet but hopefully at least bigger than UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING (or STASH HOUSE).

As yet there's not really much competition for that week. I think they should be brave and push it to a reasonable amount of screens to be honest. Give it a reasonable amount of promo. It might surprise.
Mad Max comes out the week after, but a decent opening week for Skin Trade could make it a financial success.

It comes a week after Avengers (which will sadly swallow all competition). But still good news for the big screen :)

True. But if they gave it enough of a push they might be able to get a 2-5 mill opening weekend. That sounds like nothing, but for an indie action film shot on a 9 mill budget, that would be pretty good.

Dolph will try to push it and do PR for it but that didn't help much in the case of DAY OF RECKONING (which granted ultimately was a tough sell given the odd nature of the film).

I don't know how Magnolia sees it what they can do (ultimately theatres decide) or pay: problem with Dolph's U.S. theatrical releases in the past was even when they played in 1,200 theatres (RED SCORPION, I COME IN PEACE, even MASTERS) there was not enough marketing to support them.

The good news is the film's got a good anticipation among the action fans but we know that's not enough or that they won't necessarily pay for it... (just as FB likes don't mean anything when you're pushing a product)

Sure hope for the best. At least this Dolph's baby and one in a long time where he's starring in and having a proper theatrical release (not a surprise one like MISSIONARY MAN or THE KILLING MACHINE).

this looks much higher quality than stuff like universal soldier day of reckoning. Tony jaa is probably delivering the best on screen martial artist out of anyone currently . His best films are ong bak 1 and 2 warrior king 1 and 2
The trailer looks like a return to the classic action movies and It as one of best casts list for any action movie in terms of the martial artists ( minus scott adkins or donnie yen )
Michael jai wait appeared in one of the greatest martial arts films ever in the much overlooked undisputed 2 ( undisputed 3 also was brilliant)These films seems to be overlooked by many people but if you have not seen them you should check them out.
If this deliver anything like the above films mentioned this going to be a classic.

Depends what you mean by quality, DAY OF RECKONING is a very high quality film by my book and maybe one of the most demanding Dolph was ever a part of. But SKIN TRADE should be high up there and probably has a lot more action and excitement along the drama if that's what you're looking for.

day of reckoning wasn't too bad actually and the action in it was good so probably should not have used as an example as he as done worse.I am Also fan of scott adkins so maybe expected a little better after seeing undisputed 2 and 3 & ninja shadow of tear. Some of dolphs direct to video stuff like mechanik looked alot cheaper in comparison (same with van damme and seagal.)
if you look at what someone like donnie yen who's about 50 is doing now( his career tailed off after 80s abit like dolphs but now back making good films like special id kung fu killer aka kung fu jungle ip man 1 and 2). This is what quality i am hoping for.
I think dolph did well in expendables 2 and 3 . Probably the budget as let him down abit in the past as with action films it is really hard to make descent film without a big budget . From the trailer film look like a big step up in quality action and is the film i am most looking forward to this year. I used to love all is 80s stuff like punisher , come in peace etc and hope this film is comparable

This part made me laugh slightly...

"You may recall that Dolph and Tony made something of a deal: Dolph would star in a Thai movie with Tony – the currently filming A Man Will Rise – and then Tony would make the trip to America to shoot a movie with Dolph."

Wonder if A MAN WILL RISE will ever see the light of day. Did it even finish filming?

Regarding the release, I'm assuming it'll be a limited theatrical run. I imagine it'll be available as a VOD as well?
