I understand the interviewers are movie gores just like us, but still i has to say they kinda ruined it talking over Matthias eveeytime he had something great to say, they cut him right in the middle of the most important moment in his career, the Dark Angel's box office failure conequences..
Which clip is it? The whole town sings Auld Lang Syne at the Bailey house and Zuzu says her famous “Look, Daddy. Teacher says ‘Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings’” line.
What’s its purpose? Ironic juxtaposition. The film’s being watched by a drunken attendant at the Bail Bond Office in this Dolph Lundgren-starring, Texas-set sci-fi crime flick. Disturbed by a noise outside, the bondsman breaks off his viewing to investigate, letting loose a volley of swearing about pinko commie asshole burglar shitheads as he does so. Next, an intergalactic drug dealer shoots him full of heroin then murders him by draining his brain of fluid to sell back to junkies on his home planet. Combining the cutest line in Christmas cinema with that horrible series of events is evidently someone’s idea of a joke.
Is it festive? It’s set at Christmas, but there’s no goodwill to all men in this one.
We continue to celebrate our 5-Year Anniversary by reflecting at select titles in our colorful catalog. Today's spotlight: DARK ANGEL
CLIFF MACMILLAN (Blu-ray Producer / Acquisitions): I had always been a fan of this underrated scl-fi film, so it was on the top of the list when we were able to work out a deal with MGM. It’s definitely one of Lundgren’s best films. Right up there with UNIVERSAL SOLDIER. The film has done very well.
JEFF NELSON (Senior Marketing Manager): I'll be honest, I was not very familiar of this film (even under it's more recognized name I COME IN PEACE) but Cliff was positive and assured that it had a big following. He was completely right as our release sold much more than we had estimated and set the stage to fold in our more Sci-fi leaning films to be folded into our line.
Good to know it sold well because some of the distributors I talked to were more than disappointed at the sales of the Dolph titles they took a lot of time and effort to release as special editions...
