This is essentially Dolph's take on the similar film The Presidio (1988). Got to love a simple military conspiracy thriller.

Latest episode of “I Must Break This Podcast” is up, this time discussing this often forgotten early dramatic effort of Lundgren. I’m joined by Marcus Jones of the Jean-Pod Van Damme podcast to discuss. Hope you enjoy! Please feel free to email me your comments, etc. :D :D

Enjoyed listening to this one. Can't say it makes me want to revisit the film though. It was half-baked from the get-go. Similar to PENTATHLON in that it doesn't really seem to know what type of movie it wants to be.

Here they are, held up in my hand-writing:

• About the plot points feeling sort of "thrown out" in the movie, most have to do with alluding to important plot points from the original script and the following script rewrites

• The faulty transfers and DVD releases do not represent the approved film and photography as it was released theatrically (in most territories worldwide except for the US and the UK)

• The production script features an omitted ending scene between Anderson (Lundgren) and Jackson (Gossett) at the airport but was not shot since it was only there when writer and former attached director William Tannen left the project at the 11th hour

• The comparison between COVER-UP and THE DEFENDER (14 years later) is interesting since one was produced before the Gulf War and the other in the years following 9/11

• COVER-UP was never meant to be "bigger" in terms of action. No action was scrapped during production. It's just the script that was changed along the way during prep, and created more plot holes, with some twists and events that were transformed. I haven't read the draft I have in a while but if anything the action aspect of the film was enhanced because of Dolph being the star.

• The Black October subplot was actually not too far from actual events whenever a single, simple enemy is pointed out to be destroyed...

The point was not to be like a Cannon flick such as Delta Force and others always incriminating Arabs or foreigners as terrorists. The threat here coming from Americans wa actually ahead of the curve regarding the Gulf War that burst out 6-8 months after wrap, and September 11...

Saw the movie 27 years ago yesterday for its French opening day, and went to see it a second time... The release was scheduled 6 months prior and got postponed because of the Gulf war.

Therefore, this TV interview had been recorded in November 1990 and aired in July 1991:

Saddened to find out about the passing of composer Bruno Louchouarn in 2018. I had just interviewed him a few years before. His unique sound for the COVER-UP score always had a special place in my heart, particularly the eerie, melancholic end titles...
You may also remember his additional music for the TOTAL RECALL cantina (aka "Mutant Dancing").
