Already 10 years this October that Dolph Lundgren's sophomore directorial (and best) effort first came out...!

Lots happened this decade, some good, some bad. And while COMMAND PERFORMANCE was more of a fun experience and ICARUS was a painful one, SKIN TRADE was almost a follow up to THE MECHANIK in a way.

Along with the Unisol sequels, this is still probably my favourite DL film of the new millenium. There's a simple purity to the story. It's done well, and even in the dramatic scenes it is effective.

If you're a DP, particularly one as talented as Clarkson, you should at least put a showreel up in the correct aspect ratio. He's selling himself short here I think.

I think it's in the right aspect ratio (if you don't count the 1.78 instead of 1.85) but the first scene shown is one that is distorded in the film itself. I don't know which source he used but it seems it was put together a while ago so probably not with the best assets and converting tools.

Still, even looking back at this, I really rate Mechanik as easily one of D's best in the last 10 years. Up with the Unisol sequals. I think The Mechanik looks great too. Clarkson did a great job.

No doubt about it. The film has a certain cachet and chemistry about all the elements coming together in a unique and solid way, far beyond being a mere action flick or B movie. And Clarkson had a lot of ideas and influence (beyond cinematography) on the project as well.
