That looks pretty cool. And just the menu alone looks better than my DVD copy.

I couldn't help it... I ordered the Blu-Ray from Amazon.de. Should be here by this time next month at the latest.

Just based on the screen caps, it beats my DVD copy all to heck.

Easy to beat indeed. All the DVDs have been rather poorly transferred and in 4/3 except for the French edition which looked great but didn't bare the English track...

Maybe this release will help the film being rediscovered. To me that was one of the best and most interesting of that era beyond it's numerous clichés and flaws (and I'm not talking about the first script which really set the bar quite high, could have been a BLOOD DIAMOND type production).

The 90's and early 00's were not very kind to movies on home video. Full screen messes, horrible transfers and snapper cases everywhere.

but Sweepers was indeed a very bad transfer.

Now I need Hidden Agenda, Missionary Man and Storm Catcher on Blu-Ray, with good transfers.

Yeah, the first US widescreen release of STORM CATCHER was pretty good I thought though (as was the one for the JILL THE RIPPER edition).

HIDDEN AGENDA shall come out on Blu in early 2019 in Germany so that's good.

I have little hope for MISSIONARY MAN which is a real shame since someone at Sony or the lab somehow messed up the colours during the down conversion from HD to SD (DVD) if there's one that deserves a "payback" it's this one...!

Storm Catcher has a lovely commentary by Tony Hickox that is just full of film making tips on low budgets, endlessly fascinating.

Good news about Hidden Agenda, hopefully it's a respectable transfer.

And I never expect to see Missionary Man on Blu-Ray.

SWEEPERS has that good old exotic, classic action adventure feel meddled with indie drama at times.

I personally love the atypical (for an action flick) use of songs by Angolan singer Waldemar Bastos which elevates the film and some intimate scenes.

Pic looks good from those screenshots

EDIT:
I received my Blu-ray copy and watched it: you can blind buy it, the transfer is very good and probably the best you'll ever see the film, finally doing justice to the scope of the South African locations and lighting in proper original 1.85 aspect ratio...
(the only down part is that the scrolling texts of the beginning and end are translated into German)

I don't remember how he was in PASSENGER 57 but Bruce Payne is terrible here (as are most of the badly cast henchmen except for Yager maybe).

PS: SWEEPERS has an insane number of explosions, probably more than in RED SCORPION or DARK ANGEL, I dare you to count them!

Any ideas why director Keoni Waxman went by Darby Black for this one? Is it because it was taken away from him and re-edited?
