to be honest, i wouldn't mind this one to happen with dolph as the lead. its kind of a cult classic so dolph and mathias pairing again would work. bur not much CGI.

Still a long way off and probably unlikely to ever really happen, but I'd be down with this - I watched the original again fairly recently and my girlfriend who is typically fed up with action films was pretty tuned into it. It'd be good to see Dolph do a bit of a throwback film as the lead.

Director Mathieu Weschler (Seagal's ATTRITION) as interviewed by Dida:
Who are your dream actors or stars you would like to work with in the future?

I would love to work with Hong Kong legends such as Chow Yun Fat, Tony Leung and all the cast from The Mission... I'd love to work in Japan with Takeshi Kitano and his crew... I love Asia. I wish I could do an Expendables movie too, haha. That would be the perfect way to make a movie with all the people I like. As a kid, I was dying to see Predator, Die Hard and all Mc Tiernan's movies. I was fond on I Come In Peace with Dolph (if he wants to do a sequel I'd love to hehe) I love Knock Off with Van Damme too...I love Schwarzy etc...When I was a kid at a good night, these movies were treated as A movies They were in theaters and on TV. I saw them on major french TV channels, today no more... Or maybe a deep cable channel and at midnight... I miss that good old time.

The DARK ANGEL / I COME IN PEACE sequel seems to be back on Matthias Hues' burner once again...

Hues apparently wrote the script himself and just got an entry to have the MGM boss read it... It would be for both him and Caine/Dolph (if he agrees to it) to come back and would be set present day. More details in the podcast interview below:

Hues should reach out to Mathieu Weschler. Weschler is very serious about doing this one. He spoke to me about it a few times. And the did well with Attrition....
If he dies....he dies....

I think that if the studio agrees to making it (which is the first and major step to wait for) and Dolph signs on too, he wouldn't be against directing it either and might really push to be the director.

Well, the movie will (most likely) not be done, but Hues' pitch is really interesting.

Ten Action Sequels the World Needs! by Tom Jolliffe
https://www.flickeringmyth.com/2023/07/ ... rld-needs/

Dark Angel 2 – I Return in Anger.

As a fan of the Master of the Universe himself, Dolph Lundgren, there are several characters I’d love to see him revisit, including Frank Castle. However, one film that screamed out for a sequel, was Dark Angel (also known as I Come In Peace). The blend of action, sci-fi and comedy made it possibly the most crowd-pleasing Lundgren film where the big Swede is the leading man. It’s great fun and full of crazy action, big stunts and an almost excessive amount of exploding cars. Best of all, it’s back in the halcyon days when action movies had to create set pieces practically. To show a car blowing up you had to blow up a car (or 50).

Sequels have been tentatively rumoured over the years but there have been complex rights problems along with the unavoidable fact that this made no impact theatrically. Still, the film was huge on video and has become a cult favourite in recent years. Matthias Hues the imposing legend of b movie cinema, who stars as a nefarious 7ft drug-dealing alien has long championed a sequel.

Maybe it’s time the recently retired Jack Caine (Lundgren) is paid a visit from another spaceman, bent on revenge and played once again by Hues. Do we need an elaborate storyline as to whether he’s miraculously returned, is a brother, or a clone? Neh… the first film had killer CDs. The script needs a mass of one-liners (writer available here by the way…) between Lundgren and his old FBI frenemy Agent Smith (Brian Benben), some explosive action and a suitable sci-fi plot that brings an extraterrestrial threat to the world only Caine and Smith can stop. I’ve been waiting 33 years for a follow-up…
