KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - Knoxville is set to host an exclusive advanced screening of 'Aquaman' with a super-villain in attendance.
Regal announced Wednesday they will host Aquaman star Patrick Wilson at the movie’s exclusive advance screening on Thursday, December 13. It will be held at Regal Pinnacle Stadium.
“We are excited to welcome Patrick Wilson to Knoxville for a benefit screening of this highly anticipated film,” said Ken Thewes, CMO at Regal. “As a Golden Globe, Emmy and Tony Award nominee, Wilson is an incredibly talented performer, and we cannot wait for his return to the big screen with Aquaman. We are grateful to our friends at Warner Bros. for making this screening possible and helping raise funds for Variety’s special needs children.”
The title role is played by former Game of Thrones star, Jason Momoa. Wilson stars as Aquaman’s Atlantean half-brother King Orm.
The film also stars Amber Heard, Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe, Jason Patrick , Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, as well as Ludi Lin and Temuera Morrison.
The proceeds from the screening will benefit Variety, the Children’s Charity of Eastern Tennessee.
Variety is a multi-million dollar philanthropic organization with 43 chapters in 13 countries. Variety makes an impact on both local and national levels through medical equipment donations, specialized therapeutic programs and well-placed donations.
Beginning Friday, November 16, a limited number of tickets will be available for sale to the public at the Regal Pinnacle theatre in Knoxville. Advance tickets are $50 through Thursday, December 6 and will increase to $75 on Friday, December 7 with all proceeds benefiting Variety – the Children’s Charity.
Additional information is available on Regal's website at http://www.REGmovies.com.
The Aquaman soundtrack will be released on 14th December
Warner Bros. will apparently be showing a cut-down version of the SDCC Aquaman sizzle reel with prints of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald this weekend, with the IMAX versions of the movie offering the full five-minute trailer. That makes sense, since, while I can’t speak for the condensed version, the sizzle reel was a terrific piece of advertising for next month’s DC Films spectacular. Whether or not we’ll get a conventional second trailer in the next month (perhaps whenever tickets go on sa) I cannot say, but as long as the sizzle reel is "new to you" for most theatrical audiences, it will do for a "second trailer."
On Saturday December 15th theater chains such as Regal, AMC, Cinepolis, Bow Tie, ArcLight, Showcase, Studio Movie Grill, Santikos, Megaplex and possibly others will feature a 7PM screening of Aquaman for Amazon Prime customers. Those screenings will be separate of regular Thursday preview screenings which will begin at 5PM on December 20th.
Similar early Amazon Prime screenings were scheduled for films such as Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle or Hotel Transylvania 3. In the case of Jumanji, some of those screenings even sold out.
“These screenings create an event atmosphere for films that might need an edge; people who may not otherwise plunk down full-price for a Saturday afternoon screening,” said Matthew Monagle of Film School Rejects in July.
Although December 15th is an entire five days ahead of Aquaman’s official Thursday release, it is after the film is set to open in China and many major European and Asian markets.
For Prime members, it can be expected that tickets will be made available soon, likely through an Atom Tickets link at which they may book up to 10 tickets by signing in with their Prime account. Amazon already set up a separate page with Aquaman movie merchandise.
Aquaman opens on December 7th in China and nationwide in the U.S. on December 21st.

Dive Into Atlantis with Aquaman
From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.
Wan directs from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall, story by Geoff Johns & James Wan and Will Beall, based on characters created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger for DC. The film is produced by Peter Safran and Rob Cowan, with Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada serving as executive producers.

Aquaman director James Wan has revealed that almost 90 percent of the film is in full IMAX aspect ratio. The use of IMAX technology guarantees some eye-popping visual effects for the audiences as almost all scenes in the movie wouldn’t have black bars and fill up the entire screen in theaters.
It was when a fan took to Twitter to ask Wan if there are any scenes in the full IMAX aspect ratio in Aquaman, he replied nearly the whole movie has been shot using the IMAX technology.
“Roughly 90%. Nearly the whole movie. Seriously,” Wan tweeted.
However, it currently remains unknown if the IMAX aspect ratio will make it to the upcoming DC film’s home video as well. Notably, Christopher Nolan’s 2008 Batman classic The Dark Knight was the first mainstream film to use IMAX filmed footage. Around 30 minutes of the film was shot using IMAX cameras. Zack Snyder also partially shot Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League in an IMAX-friendly aspect ratio.
Some select sequences of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 will also reportedly be shot using the large format cameras. The film’s release has been delayed back seven months from Nov. 1, 2019, to June 5, 2020.
When another fan asked Wan if Aquaman’s marketing including trailers, television spots and promo clips were showing too much of the movie, he said in the words of Vulko, the trailers or promos have not even close to revealed what the film has in store.
Wan recently attended the Aquaman blue carpet premiere event in Beijing along with actors Jason Momoa and Amber Heard. He also shared pictures of the event on his Twitter account. Around 25 minutes of footage from the film was screened at the fan event.
Aquaman will release in China on December 7, 2018, in Brazil and Russia on December 13, 2018, and in India on December 14. The movie will hit the US theatres on December 21, 2018.
