From SMASH Global – HOLLYWOOD – Dec. 3, 2018 – SMASH Global announced today that it will honor actor Dolph Lundgren (Creed 2 & Aquaman), Boxing Hall of Famer “Sugar” Shane Mosley, professional bodybuilder/actor Lou Ferrigno (the original Incredible Hulk) and a surprise, fourth honoree for SMASH Global VIII: Night of Champions benefitting The Collective Access at The Taglyan Complex on Thursday, Dec. 13. The star-studded, black-tie gala will be a celebration of combat sports including four, championship bouts showcasing Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters from around the globe, and more celebrity guests/presenters to be announced at a later date.
“We are thrilled to be hosting what will be our biggest event yet,” said Steve Orosco, SMASH Global Founder & CEO. “This will be a truly special evening where we give mixed martial arts an intimate, luxury platform showcasing the sport’s raw entertainment within an exclusive gala setting. In addition, we will raise funds that are vital to the work of The Collective Access, as they continue to empower the lives of youth through education and networking.”
SMASH Global brings together professional athletes, celebrities and Hollywood’s elite for an evening of exciting entertainment, as they plan to crown its first set of World Champions among MMA’s top fighters from Trinidad, Brazil, Ukraine, Japan and the U.S. The highly anticipated, Main Event will showcase Trinidadian, Joash Walkins (13-1) as he faces off with Brazilian, Flavio Carvalho (6-1) for Bantamweight Championship Title.
Also, for the first time, SMASH Global will present four icons – Lundgren, Mosley, Ferrigno and a special honoree disclosed night-of – with the lifetime achievement award for their significant impact to the world of combat sports. Previous honorees have included Mel Gibson, Freddie Roach, Tito Ortiz, Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, Steven Seagal and Earnie Shavers.
The gala will also feature a world-class dining experience, hosted bar and silent auction with proceeds benefitting The Collective Access. Previous once-in-a-lifetime auction experiences have included one-on-one training with a professional MMA fighter, a VIP experience to the ESPYs, ringside tickets to the next UFC fight in Las Vegas and more.
