"Cinefantastique", 1988

Pyun also cast Kathy Ireland for MASTERS 2?

Albert Pyun got an early draft of what he called a "treatment/screenplay hybrid" that attached editor Rozanne Zingale Oriella sent out to him.
Stephen Tolkin had also worked on the MOTU 2 script...

Pyun, king of recycling, is apparently taking ideas and characters from this for his new project BAD ASS ANGELS...

I recently got the chance to read several excerpts from this 157 pages (!) treatment/screenplay dated November 18, 1987 (before the original was even released in Europe). And "oh boy" how we dodged a bullet here... If some fans were angry at the first film, they would have hated this one even more. Very few characters remained (mainly He-Man, Gwildor and Skeletor), new earthlings were brought, and Pyun was clearly writing his own thing, which reads as a parody of the first film and a weird mashup...

Anyone interested in what one of the ideas for the unproduced MOTU sequel was should check out the episode of the podcast, where I had the privilege of speaking with screenwriter, Stephen Tolkin!

Enjoy!

I had never heard of that idea, I wonder how many treatments or script drafts there has been on this one. I had interviewed Tolkin and had dinner with him in Paris a few years ago, he's a very literate person.

Thanks God MOTU wasn't made.I do not have anything against Albert but when it comes to post production all his movies were messed up. Obviously he is not very good in editing process.

Many stated Pyun as Kurosava pupil but in commercial US filmmaking this doesn't work. Cyborg 1989 Van Damme movie was rightly re-edited by Van Damme , Sheldon and co and thanks that they did a re-shot for the final fight with Klyn and extra barn scene ( as in case of Unisol) because it needed to be a much longer fight seq. Watching Cyborg workprint (so called Albert Pyun DC) the movie is kind of incoherent in some part ( too early cut), music to much loud rock but i still would incorporate some stuff in Cyborg Theatrical Cut released version. For example some Van Damme, Klyn dialogue as internal voice like in DC because I always felt this movie has too little dialogue - voice off screen could help a little bit example Klyn saying u tried to escape Strat at the beginning - in DC was fine, Van Damme dialogue when he pass wasteland etc. The ideal Cyborg should be around 92-93 minutes with all good stuff from both cuts (because 86 minutes Theatrical is kind of short and rushed in some parts). Cinematography is really good. Cyborg is aka Mad Max of Cannon in some way. Once Albert said he was asked to direct Double Impact (1991) again with JC. Thanks Sheldon took the control because nobody could know what it could turn out. Another cyberpank maybe.

After I saw Captain America 199o made by Pyun imagine how MOTU 2 will look like as sci fi especially during action seq. superpowerful elements of characters, logistics and stuff . Especially with 4 million what can u do for visual effects, even worse than Cannon Superman 4 that totally killed Superman franchise in late '80s

Albert Pyun passed away yesterday. A tremendous and solid director, and he seemed to be a really nice person.

(found on Cynthia Curnan FB, but somehow I can't post the link)

R.I.P dear Albert Pyun. He is the only one director who gave us this cyberpunk post apocalyptic movies in a raw. Personal I like this genre a lot. I consider his Cyborg (despite the fact it was re-edited by Van Damme and Sheldon), Nemesis a cult classic action movies. Radioactive Dreams, Sword and Sourcerer, Kickboxer seq. are really good movies in their way. Sometimes lack of budget affected his quality ( ex. Captain America), but he had a major impact in B movie making. He will be missed for sure by many fans.

ELECTRIC BOOGALOO deleted footage of Albert Pyun on SPIDER-MAN and MASTERS 2, ultimately released on the UK release of CYBORG from 88 Films:

What he says is not very clear to grasp, isn't it 3 weeks away from shooting as in 3 weeks before?
And it's about SPIDER-MAN since MASTERS 2 was to be shot after the first part of SPIDEY was done.
