'Creed 3' Taps 'King Richard' Writer (Exclusive)

Zach Baylin will pen the latest installment in MGM's boxing franchise.

A new writer is getting in the ring for the third Creed film.

Zach Baylin, the scripter behind the upcoming Will Smith movie King Richard, has been tapped to pen the third installment of the boxing franchise for MGM.

The movie will continue the story of Adonis Creed, played by Michael B. Jordan, but exact plot details are not yet known. A director has yet to be confirmed for the movie.

The first Creed film was written and directed by Ryan Coogler, grossing $173 million at the global box office. Creed 2 was directed by Steven Caple Jr. from a screenplay by Juel Taylor and Sylvester Stallone and went on the gross over $214 million worldwide.

It is unclear when Creed 3 will head into production, as Jordan has a packed upcoming shooting schedule. He film the yet-to-be-titled David O. Russell movie before heading into production on the Denzel Washington-directed Sony drama A Journal for Jordan.

Baylin's screenplay King Richard appeared on the 2018 Black List, and centers on the father of tennis greats Venus and Serena Williams. The script later attached Smith to star as Richard Willams and produce via his Overbrook banner, with the package later being picked up by Warner Bros after a bidding war.

He is repped by CAA and Grandview.

9 Things I Learned Watching the ‘Rocky’ Series in 3 Days
https://variety.com/2020/film/features/ ... 234632495/

Dolph Lundgren Shines in “Creed II”

As mentioned before, Lundgren only had about three lines in “Rocky IV” so it’s interesting he because such a pivotal character in “Creed II,” when we learn Ivan Drago has spent the last 33 years raising his son Viktor to be a fighting machine to earn back the life he lost when Rocky defeated him. Lundgren is compelling in his single-mindedness. He’s even sympathetic when you think about everything that was taken from him. But the film does something unexpected; when Viktor is in the ring for his final fight with Apollo, Ivan chooses his son over the country that turned its back on him and throws in the towel, ending the fight. The final shot of Ivan and Viktor working out together, father and son, gives you hope for the characters — and maybe a new franchise? I’d be up for “Drago.”

CREED III to hit Paramount+ after a short theatrical run?
On the film side, the service will benefit from shortened theatrical windows for many of ViacomCBS titles. Both A Quiet Place Part II and Mission: Impossible 7 will stream on Paramount+ 45 days after they leave theaters, or about half the normal time it would take for a film to become available after leaves theaters. Under terms of a new output deal with MGM's premium network Epix, the studio's features, including Lady Gaga-starrer House of Gucci, Rocky franchise sequel Creed III and James Bond pic No Time to Die will head to Paramount+ after their theatrical runs. The service will also be home to 700 films from the Miramax library.

I absolutely love this scene. Here it is in case anyone's curious:

Huge shame in my opinion that this scene was omitted from the film. It's very brief with limited dialogue, but it says so much, and it provides some excellent closure to each one of the characters. Plus, Rocky and Creed making peace with Ivan Drago perfectly sells it.

Is Dolph teasing a return of the Dragos in Creed 3?
Florian has commented ”Time to bring that heat back!”.
Could be nothing but I noticed D did a similar thing with EX4: Posting a throwback pic of Gunnar just before the anouncement.

I know that after CREED II there talks about both a "Drago" mini-series and a potential return in CREED III, but it doesn't seem in the pipeline, at least in the next movies...

I would like to see a Drago family spin-off. Victor with Ivan would start their own way to try to be a champion in a different weight or smth.
