Hopefully this is truly a go now:

https://deadline.com/2021/10/dolph-lundgren-to-direct-and-star-in-action-pic-wanted-man-for-millennium-afm-1234864514/

Here comes the AFM brawn. The Expendables and Aquaman star Dolph Lundgren is set to direct and star in action pic Wanted Man, which Millennium Media is launching ahead of the virtual AFM.

Lundgren has also penned the script with Michael Worth (Killing Cupid).

In Wanted Man, when a cartel shooting leaves several DEA agents dead, an ageing police officer must retrieve an eyewitness and escort her across the border. But when they learn that the attack was executed by American forces, he must decide who to trust.

Cool!
Produced by Millenium now. Good sign, right?
Could Dolph have got this going with them as part of his EX4 contract?
I know Banderas did the same. He got a personal project made (Automata, I believe) in return for appearing in EX3.

That's nice. At least with Millenium, he can got a decent co-star, and there's usually decent promotion. And he'll have freedom I guess (even if the budget is a bit cheap).

For the past 8-9 years, he had reasons to be reluctant working for Millennium again (aside from the EXP sequels) even though they would have wanted to, but looking back and seeing the current state of things, this is probably best doing it with them.

Regarding the announced tentative start date of February, I suspect it might actually happen a little later considering Dolph will be just coming back from doing EX4 and AQUAMAN...

I wonder if this might be targeted to hit one of the streaming platforms as an exclusive (initially). In theory it could mean a slightly better production value. Millennium don't generally seem as keen on the atypical DTV kind of thing they (or N.I) were doing with D prior to Expendables etc. Jolt with Kate Beckinsale ended up an Amazon premiere. It was one of those quite common in streaming action (Netflix have snapped up a few) which looks more than the general DTV fare going as far as budget, but still not 'theatrical' scale. At least it would be nice to see him in the 5 mill region rather than 1 (sometimes less as far as production budgets).

Interesting thought, Tom, I didn't see it that way.

Millennium signed a deal to make films for Screen Media a few months ago:

https://variety.com/2021/film/news/screen-media-reaches-distribution-deal-the-outpost-rambo-millennium-media-1235024471/

Screen Media, the distributor of “The Outpost” and “Willy’s Wonderland,” has reached a distribution deal with Millennium Media, the company behind The Expendables and Olympus has Fallen franchises, to release at least five films a year for the next three years. The first film under the deal will be “The Enforcer” starring Antonio Banderas, Kate Bosworth and 2 Chainz. Directed by Richard Hughes, the film is shooting this summer in Greece. Screen Media will handle the North American release in 2022.

WANTED MAN seems like the sort of film that would be part of this arrangement.

Michael Worth

Maybe it’s like a fine wine? In this case there is no doubt the current incarnation of the story has benefited from our beating it into a pulp. Now it’s time for Dolph to start doing that on camera…

I didn't know that deals like this were still made in Hollywood. Reminds me of when Christopher Reeve did SUPERMAN IV in return for getting STREET SMART made. That was Cannon then, which Millennium was born out of, so it only makes sense that they're going this route. Coincidentally, Dolph did a similar deal with Millennium 10-11 years ago with DIRECT CONTACT and COMMAND PERFORMANCE (you can probably guess which one of that pair was the obligation, and which was the passion project  ).

Michael Worth

We’ve been on this one a LONG time working this out to get it right. Probably more drafts than anything I have written in my life. Makes acting in fight films seem less exhausting! But have been enjoying it the whole way while ramping up the “action content” lately. Got to put all this energy somewhere….

I don’t suppose you can share those reasons? Would be interesting to know.
Since the bottom fell out of the old DTV-market, working with Millenium is atleast preferable to what else is out there. Though VMI seems some what serious to me.

I'm actually kinda interested in that as well. I know Millennium used to be Nu Image and some of the Nu Image produced films had some troubled productions so that might be it? But I'm not sure, Jox can probably explain it best

And if they decide to give it more value, they can arrange to have Banderas as the bad guy here (and that would be fine by me, his part being the best thing I remember from The Exp 3).

I can't and I won't say more for several reasons and among those because I don't know "all the details"...

bomaz wrote:And if they decide to give it more value,

I hope that's the case, which I think would be possible particularly if they can make a deal with Netflix or the likes like someone of you mentioned. What's the name of the Mary Elizabeth Winstead action flick that Netflix just released? WANTED MAN could well fall under that category...
