I think it'd be a really good idea for Dolph to do a film with Ringo Lam, only in the seriously dramatic level of past flicks like Prison on Fire and City on Fire. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to work with Kirk Wong if he were to take himself seriously (like with Crime Story) as opposed to doing another guilty pleasure like The Big Hit.

Yeah I've been thinking about Ringo Lam too, if he could make VD look good then imagine what he could do with Dolph! Unfortunately according to close friends of his Lam is pretty much retired for now and not ready to come back out.

Another great HK director for Dolph would be Johnnie To.

IF Dolph would make a movie with an asian director he should go and make the film over there in their environment, I think the mistake VD did when got Woo for HARD TARGET was to bring him to the US, if he really wanted the greatness of Woo they should have made the movie in HK...

That may be, but then we might not have gotten Lance Henriksen as the bad guy or the great Louisiana setting. OR even Wilford Brimley horseback.

I do agree about Johnnie To, jox. The man has made some nice little HK flicks like PTU and Dolph would be wise to make him the next director.

Do u guys think Ringo Lam or Johnny To would go for a movie with a budget, like 5 millon? Hong Kong would have been perfect for a Dolph movie :D

I'm not sure Somebody like Ringo Lam or Tsui Hark are suited to Dolph's sensibilities these days, I think somebody like Walter Hill would be more fitting now.

Hell yeah, Walter Hill! He should throw Dolph in something like a buddy-cop movie or a western. Now THAT would simply rule!

Maybe if Dolph took a trip to HK to work with someone like Ringo or even Tsui Hark, he could get some hard-core business done. Like if BlackJack were actually good, that's what it could be like in terms of HK-style action.

Oooo!! Thanks Jox, I love to see this kinda thing. Icarus is gonna be really great and I'm glad there are some gritty fights and kicks in it. I like how Dolph explains a bit about the movie and how he always mentions "kicking ass". It seems like he is a lot of fun and very optimistic. Almost like Stallone in the kinda kid-like excitement he takes in these things. Really interesting watch.

Hell. YES.
This is gonna rock so much.
I love Dolphs optimistic mindset but also his focus. Like in the shot in the video where we see him blocking how he´s gonna shoot it. He seems confident as a filmmaker.
We´re getting so much great stuff from the Icarus shoot. Thats another thing i love about Dolph. He really takes care of the fans. When was the last time something like this popped up from a Van Damme-shoot?

YEAH!

AWESOME! It's always great to get behind the scenes info. I'm constantly wondering how they shoot certain things - how they make fights look totally realistic without the actors actually hitting each other. It must be the camera angle because I can't believe that all those actors (most of them not trained fighters) can stop a fist 1cm before impact.

It is both the camera angles and the coverage so there can be a lot of cheating going on (just like anything in movies). But if you're fighter or martial artist you should be able to control yourself if you've been well trained, and these are stunt men so they should have the proper training. Now that doesn't mean there's never any contact or that sometimes you will not ask for the fights to have actual contact.

Is it me or is Dolph pulling a Seagal-move here and wringing a guy into a little table?

Yeah that's what I thought too. Think the fighting is going to be quite realistic in this one with some stuff we've never seen Dolph do before. Did Barry Evans choreograph these fights Jox?
