The Expendables is the 6th most anticipated movie of 2010

Sylvester Stallone is both in front of and behind the camera for this action spectacular also starring Jason Statham, Jet Li, Eric Roberts, and Dolph Lundgren (!).

Wow, it's #6! AOL News did one of those and Expendables was nowhere on there. I'm just surprised people actually care about the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

I was pretty sure it was gonna be the nr 1 most anticipated, to be honest. That's mildly disappointing.

It was already #5 most searched on IMDB of 2008 one month after it was announced but who knows how "most anticipated" is ranked and based on, it's definitely one of the most talked about!

It's pretty good for an unknown franchise starring a bunch of actors few people would consider to be on the A-list. It's up against the most successful comic adaptation ever AND the last Harry Potter story, so it's done remarkably well.

I still don't see it becoming a real blockbuster though, a nice commercial success, probably enough to guarantee a sequel, but it'll be lucky to scrape into the top ten grossing movies of 2010.

No cause it's produced and distributed by independent studios on a mere $80 million (which is nothing for a blockbuster nowadays). The marketing is likely not to be in the same league either, but on the other hand it's got an unheard of buzz going for it.

Great stuff on the blog about both the teaser AND the making of documentary!
I saw Sly today
August 23, 2009 by ethelmae
and had a great conversation about all things Expendables. He also showed me his newest acquisition – a 1932 Deuce Coupe (See photo below). Sweeeeet! I asked about the teaser that will prevue in Venice – it’s approximately 3 minutes long and according to Sly “kicks ass”. I am dying to see it – hopefully I will get the chance before he leaves for the Festival. He still hasn’t given me permission to post it after it’s shown in Venice but I will keep trying. We also talked about the scene with Bruce, Arnold & Sly. One thing for certain – they will shoot it before the end of September. Sly is still kicking around some really cool ideas – I mean seriously people…having the three of them together in one frame is pretty freakin exciting… and there are high expectations. So he is hashing it out and I’m sure will come up with a scene worthy of the actors. We also talked about the hours and hours of behind the scenes footage director John Hertzfeld shot for a documentary on the making of The Expendables. This was a difficult shoot – Sly and I agree this was the most difficult movie we have ever worked on. From casting changes to logistical nightmares to injuries there was a lot going on. And John (along with several other shooters) captured it all on film…the good the bad and the very very ugly. I think it would be a great 5 parter on HBO or Showtime in addition to putting exclusive stuff on the DVD. We talked about the value of releasing some of it before the film comes out – I think that is a mistake. Once you see the film and then see it from a behind the scenes perspective I think it will have more impact. At any rate there’s a lot of good stuff and we my friends will benefit. Works for me.

Maybe they'll make one for the release but they will still sell the movie on Sly, Statham and Li first and foremost as this testifies:

All these people have more prominent roles than Gary, who's been cast quite late (maybe after this poster was made) and might not even have one line of dialogue, I think he's really there just for show (he should have got Steve Austin's part). Gary is really unknown when you go outside the action circles, everybody I talked to didn't know who he was.

Release pushed back to August 20th:

Gonna be hard to wait those extra four months, but it does show that Lionsgate believes THE EXPENDABLES can have the same sort of August success that DISTRICT 9 and INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS have had this year.

I know Lionsgate have their reasons and it might be right commercially right but their reasoning is sorta stupid.

That's gonna be a long year, but thank god it's also gonna be a Dolph-filled year stuffed with CP, UNISOL, and ICARUS!

April 2010 was secured but for some reason I felt it might change, but I expected to June/July, bang on in the middle of Summer, not August... why that far back? That means 11 months after a 3 minute teaser trailer that the movie is actually being released, people ain't gonna be too happy about that. But yeah, at least Dolph has a back-catalogue of around three hundred and forty two films waiting to be released...
