It seems that a complete 140 pages paperpack edition of the comic book prequel will come out in July!

An awesome idea, indeed. 8) And not that far-fetched, I could actually see it happen. Suggest it on the Stallonezone board, I would guess thats the forum Sly spends most of time his time reading while online.

Yes, it has been posted last year, but a reminder can't hurt. You can find a few other Dolph interviews about TE here:

Official selection for the Cannes film festival has just been revealed: no EXPENDABLES in or out of the competition. Nu Image might host private screenings of promo footage or scenes selection but that's it. Now I'm sure there will be huge marquees on the "croisette", and we can still hope some of the cast will step on the red carpet...

Yes, yes, yes! :D Though I'm a bit confused about the use of the colour "pink" in the article, it looks a bit ... out of place when putting it next to the Expendables.

Sorry if this has already been posted, it's an article about The Expendables where Sly gives his version on the "controversy" regarding Van Damme turning down a part in the film:

To my knowledge it hasn't been posted here yet, but it is a very interesting article so thanks on behalf of those who haven't seen it yet... :P

Yeah, although I don't think we are done hearing about it yet, the Van Damme declining debacle is getting a bit old maybe, seems that some people still don't get over it (it's like when Universal offered him a huge 3-pictures deal package with a fat paycheck and VD rejected it because he wanted more money).

I think it makes it worse that he is in the position he is in now, I know he just came off the success of JCVD, but that wasn't even a commercial success, it's not as if he doesn't need the exposure. I'm actually glad Dolph accepted it though instead of JC, not only because I think a fight between six foot Dolph and five foot Li is much more interesting but because Dolph is more suited to this type of role. Everybody makes mistakes but JC's career for the last decade seems like one big cock-up. I know Dolph has the right idea about his career, JC should take some advice from him. I wonder if we'll get any promo clips from The Expendables...

Apart from the fight with Jet Li, I'm sure JC's role was a different one and Dolph would have been given his part (that was written and tailored for him) anyway.

It's funny you say that because JC used to be much smarter and more ambitious than Dolph earlier in their career. Van Damme knew and understood he needed to go after the studios and get really good directors (Woo, Hark, Lam etc) to make him look good. Dolph on the other hand was kind of lost being suddenly propelled in the movie business and Hollywood and took what came his way without much of a career plan. He made questionable choices commercially and probably listened too much to agents and producers who just used him (I heard one even stole money from him), he was also very shy and insecure which showed in the medias (on the other hand VD was soon very much full of himself).

Now Dolph kept working hard and consistently (he didn't get high level degrees for nothing), he matured both as a man and an actor/filmmaker, he learned from his mistakes and gained confidence in every way (plus his career having ups and down but never breaking through kept him grounded and not having anything to loose). What goes around comes around or the wheel turns as we say...

Good post, you are right dude. The roles have kinda reversed now. Dolph's career is quite an interesting one, to many on the surface it is just a B-movie parade but he has actually developed the charisma and confidence to give good interviews, have a laugh, send up his image, everything Van Damme used to do but won't do now. I'm glad Dolph has gained knowledge and experience of the business, hopefully this will be his second coming and he will have a plan to avoid a repeat of the early-mid 90's when he was in decline.

The problem of the mid 90's wasn't really his fault, as he was already learning and making good progress (MEN OF WAR, JOHNNY MNEMONIC, THE SHOOTER, SILENT TRIGGER etc), he had good projects and movies, it's just that he was really not in demand anymore since to most people he blew all his chances box office wise, he was already a "has been" and action movies were not the same already since he had started (no need for big muscles and big guns), the trend had evolved. One of the flaws of his career was he was always a bit behind (had RED SCORPION, DARK ANGEL, MEN OF WAR or SILENT TRIGGER been released 5 or 10 years prior it would have been a totally different story...
