According to IMDB, ICARUS would be also released by Anchor Bay in the US.

Hey everyone in the US. I couldn't wait to see Icarus, so I bought the Thai version off of eBay. I was going to buy a multi-region DVD player just for this DVD. Even though it is a "Region 3" disc, it is NTSC so it plays in a Region 1 player(US/Canada) just fine! It can be played in English without any subtitles. It is the Anchor Bay release in 16:9 widescreen ratio. Dolph still kicks ass! :D

Maybe it's actually an all-region disc, I think a lot of Thai editions are. I'm not sure this is the right aspect ratio though, which I hope the Anchor Bay one will feature.

2.35 original aspect ratio

1.78 wrong aspect ratio

This is not a multimillion dollar action comedy with state of the art effects, stunts and actors. But if you're looking for a decent, entertaining little action flic with a small budget a story ripped right out of a 80's/90's script of a Golan/Globus production, this is for you.

That's a good comparison actually. I could easily have been a Cannon film from back then.

I agree to, it does deliver. Though the problem for many, is how much producers interefered with Dolph's vision from his earlier script and storyline, right through to them re-editing his film, to be more slam-bang, and conventional. Who knows, it might be better for being 84 minutes of near non stop action, but I reckon Dolph's cut would have been more interesting, with a more 70's vibe. I still enjoyed it though.

That's funny because I really don't see the comparison here :? , ICARUS in many ways looking too "sophisticated" to be a Cannon exploitation product.

In many ways yes, especially for how it should have been in Dolphs eyes. But I feel like the producers probably wanted it to be a bit more of an exploitation product. Certainly they shifted the pacing to be that way. There are enough good moments from Dolph's direction, left in to keep some drama in though.

I just bought a pirated copy of it in the street in Manila.

It is a pretty decent flick that is very limited by a small budget. It was well-shot though and it was fun to see Dolph well-dressed.

Sure, but since there are still so many fuck ups with DVD editions and aspect ratio, that was a worry...
