Clearly, he wanted to use the success of the expendables and would have taken any actor who played in the movie !

Despite taking a phone call in the middle of the commentary, he does offer some interesting insight into the filming, the explosion on set, and getting Dolph Lundgren attached. Apparently, according to Uwe, Dolph initially turned down the role (which we already knew) and had Steve Austin lined up. When Dolph accepted it on second thought, the lead went to him.

Interesting that this was close to starring Austin; we probably wouldn't be talking about it now.

The film would have REALLY been more of a "fish out of water" story with Steve Austin starring as a redneck from Texas being sent back to midevil England. It would have been more(on purpose?) funny with him interacting with Raven! "If you think I should open a can of whoop ass on The Dark One, give me a hell yeah!" I say the movie is what it is! Just think of it as "Army Of Darkness" mixed with a Hercules/Xena: Warrior Princess" episode and enjoy the cheesiness. Who knows, ITNOTK 2 may even eventually become a "Cult Classic" itself someday!

watched it yesterday. It's actually better than the 1st--not that's saying much--and thought Uwe did a decent job considering the circumstances. I expected this to be way worse, but was pleasantly surprised. However, I hope he never makes a movie with Mr. Boll. again. ;)

French release today, big promo page where they use Statham's name because of the ITNOTK 1+2 movie boxset (and making believe they both star in the same movie)

The French release doesn't seem to have the US special features but a featurette about the making of the dragon.

Just saw it. Thought it was Dolph's worst film in many years.

Well of all the good and bad films he made this is one he was the least involved, didn't wanna do it, took the role for the paycheck and probably wasn't very happy getting up every morning on that set. It wasn't a great time as he hurt himself (used to it though) and his personal life was in turmoil with the divorce (why he took the job)...

That said the movie is pretty bad but not as much as I suspected, and it isn't his worst. Maybe I'll change my mind on second viewing...

It actually wasn't that poorly made in terms of directing and production values. It's mainly that the script, acting (including Dolph to some extent, or rather they didn't show him in a good way and made him look silly), and story were all very bad.

The only scene I remotely enjoyed was the brief scene in the dojo.

Just saw this last night and agree with everyone who has given it negative reviews. As Travis mentions above, it wasn't poorly made at all. But it was just boring and the script -- which could have been very clever -- fails to grab even the slightest moment to sway from convention. With Dolph having forged his own nice career in the past decade or so with directing, I really wish he had kept away from this one like he initially had.

Yeah, it is pretty boring, especially the first half of the film.

I watched it again with the commentary. Looking at it a second time, it is really not as bad as I originally felt. It just has a really boring and stupid first half.

I think I'll wait until the bluray is 9$ at Best Buy. I am still dumbfounded that this ever was made, looks absolutely terrible.

About the best example of a DTV flick. Well made, decent cast and more features then most studio releases. Could have been more fun if it was a bit cheesier/funnier but ah well. As I've said before, Uwe Boll isn't half as a bad a filmmaker as net nerds paint him and listening to him speak is quite interesting.
