Oh yes! Look around the internet, if there's one title (apart from the PUNISHER and SILT) that non-dolph fans demand it's that one, which seems to be one of the most popular Dolph-starring flicks! Can't say how it's gonna do sells-wise but it sure will do better anything else, even JOSHUA TREE/ARMY OF ONE.

Not mentioning it'll be a special edition, in the vein of their popular 80's style Scream Factory titles (among them not many are best-sellers on paper but rather genre cult classics). And this isnot just an action flick, it's we French have called "fantastique", at the frontier between sci-fi and horror which are genres that seem to do better than action now...

Let's rejoice about this release (the last 80's DL classic missing with TP) because the coming of special editions like the ones we've got this past year might not last!

Scream Factory
***EXCLUSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT***

Leaked in some circles awhile ago, we can now officially report that 1990's DARK ANGEL (aka: I COME IN PEACE) with Dolph Lundgren and an alien addicted to human endorphins (we kid you not) is joining the Scream Factory family for sometime in August on Blu-ray.

Exact street date and extras to be announced starting in May.

From what I read it will likely have a reversible cover, but won't be a Scream Factory Collector's Edition, so I assume the extras will be somewhat limited (but we'll already know Dolph has done his interview at least).

For sure I won't buy all of his movies on Bluray but Dark Angel is definitely on the must-have list.

Man... As excited as I am for this, now I have to find something to do with my current copy, the previous release by MGM... :(

Keep it in store, it could still be useful (and it seems this one doesn't come as a combo, probably because of the MGM MOD version)...

Three months to go before street date and the Blu-ray is already #9 in Amazon horror best sellers.

We've had a few requests asking if our DARK ANGEL release (out 8/27) will have a reverse cover that has artwork reflecting the title it was also known as called I COME IN PEACE. The answer is "yes!"

Here's the original theatrical poster to refresh your memory and ours will look similar to it. Image

Was going to try and not watch this until the new edition Blu-Ray came out but just got the hankering for it today! Wish the new edition was more loaded though, this is one of my favorite movies, let alone Dolph flicks! Will be interesting to hear what Baxley and Dolph have to say about this.

Jox, you spoke with the writers, what was their attitude towards the film like?

Also, since Baxley originally wanted Dolph as the villain, I wonder what names and actor types were bandied about for Jack Caine? I guess any serious and stern type would have done since the character is pretty typical of the time/genre.

I also hoped it would be more packed (especially since I gave them enough to at least add an extensive gallery of foreign lobby cards and such which is pretty inexpensive). But then again just like with RED SCORPION, PUNISHER and JOSHUA TREE, I had never hoped we would get a Blu-ray with extras so, that's still good though, and the trio of Baxley, Lundgren and Benben should be fairly entertaining and interesting enough!

I only spoke with the initial writer by email, he told me the genesis of the project (which he did on spec but was much different and called LETHAL CONTACT) until they brought in David Koepp (JURASSIC PARK, STIR OF ECHOES etc) and his partner to rewrite it (Baxley also did a pass on the script later).

I spoke to Baxley too (even the DP and Jay Bilas) who had very fond memories of it, it's been a while since I listened to the interview but, it's not that "he wanted" Dolph to play the villain, he "thought" Dolph was already cast as such when he got on board but soon found out he wasn't... So I don't think he had time to think of another Caine.

Trivia:
Then he tried to find a find Dolph a sidekick with a counterpoint personality and found Brian Benben, instead of the producers suggestion of Chris Penn.

But the year before, Baxley and Lundgren had another project going that called MAN TO MAN where Dolph was to star as an alien (hitchhiking the desert and ending up in Vegas with a repo man). It would have been shot right after RED SCORPION but the plug was pulled only days before filming by Bernie Brillstein (GHOSTBUSTERS) who had a fight regarding casting with the other producer who was none other than Joel Silver (same team as ACTION JACKSON).

P.S.
Interestingly Baxley had initially hired the DP of LIQUID SKY, an independent / experimental movie with a similar premise, to shoot the film...

And thanks to his father they got Richard Portman, from THE GODFATHER and STAR WARS, to do the entire sound mix (dialogue, music and effects) by himself (instead of three different people).

Baxley didn't like the U.S. re-title to I COME IN PEACE and thought at the time it was a mistake.

But he's great stuff to say about the movie so his interview on the Blu-ray should be good.

We need to get ahead of these things and organize some kind of release/screening events! With all the supplemental material you have, I'm sure we could make a hall of production and get a few guest speakers!

Good idea, has Shout ever done this for some of their releases? I could make them suggestions but now I have doubts about their commitment to this release and my contributions so I can't say it's a done deal... Which L.A. venue would you say would be best or realistic for this?

For Ninja III Blu-Ray release, the Cinefamily screened it and the stunt coordinator turned up for Q&A.

My idea would be to have 3-4 titles highlighted then invite director/crew/cast to come and do a 20 minute session with clips playing in the back, etc. Then the guest could go sign some BR's while the next came up. That way you wouldn't have to hold it in a theater and you wouldn't wear people out on the title. If you look at Shout, they have a DEEP slate coming out with some great mainstream and cult titles. My initial location idea was Meltdown Comics, they have a small theater/stage in the back where they hold events nightly.

You've got guys like Craig R. Baxley, Tobe Hooper, Albert Pyun, Renny Harlin, John Carpenter, Vic Armstrong, Joe Dante and Sam Fisterberg off the top of my head with titles coming from Shout. I'm sure if any of them were in LA they'd come out to speak about their work.

Just a thought.
