Bruce Willis Is Tired Of Making Action Movies

The actor said that running away from explosions is one of the most “boring” aspects of his job as an actor. However, this hasn’t stopped him from signing on for a handful of new action-packed motion pictures. Apparently he doesn’t mind shooting bad guys if there’s a hefty paycheck involved.

“When you’ve seen a few fireballs, it’s not exciting any more. I know part of my audience enjoys the explosions, but to be honest, I’m a bit bored of it now,” he explained.

Although Willis isn’t above doing countless Die Hard sequels, the actor claims he isn’t the sort of person who spends quite a bit of time counting the zeroes in his bank account. If the actor is interested in broadening his horizons, then he’s not making any serious changes anytime soon.

“I work in all sorts of films, but the action movies are the ones that generate the most revenue. I like to earn lots of money from those, but I do all types: small productions, mega-projects, medium-sized, even science fiction,” Willis said.

My guess regarding the return of Li, is they might have wanted Chan to replace Li, but once they realized Chan wasn't coming on board, they offered a big payday for Li to return, since they know they need him to sell the movie in the Asian markets.

They seem to be doing this with the rest of the cast too, Banderas to appeal to the Latino audiences, Kellan Lutz and the rest of the new kids to appeal to a younger demographic, teenage girls and twilight fans, Jovovich is a draw with the Resident Evil sci-fi fans and women and Ronda Rousey and Victor Ortiz to bring the MMA and Boxing fans on board, Sly, Arnold, Dolph and Statham of course bring the action crowd, and Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford are just generally big draws, well Gibson not so much anymore.

Apparently Robert Davi has joined the cast. According to a radio station called KEarth.

There seem to be a draft by the writers of OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN, Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt.

I don't think it does matter much as they are "guns for hire" on this one.

So day 1 of principal photography was today, Dolph should arrive in Bulgaria this week.

Here is Lionsgate's press release with a vague synopsis:
LIONSGATE AND MILLENNIUM FILMS COMMENCE
PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY ON ‘THE EXPENDABLES 3’

Lionsgate Will Distribute Action Thriller on August 15, 2014 in North America and the UK

SANTA MONICA, CA (August 19, 2013) – Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) and Millennium Films will begin principal photography today on THE EXPENDABLES 3, the third installment of THE EXPENDABLES action-thriller franchise, with production shooting on location in Bulgaria and at Nu Boyana Studios in Sofia.

THE EXPENDABLES 3 will feature Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to their roles in the first two films with Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford joining the all-star cast along with Kellan Lutz, MMA star Ronda Rousey, welterweight boxing champion Victor Ortiz and Glen Powell.

Patrick Hughes (RED HILL) will direct the film, with veteran Dan Bradley (The BOURNE franchise; MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL, QUANTUM OF SOLACE) directing the second unit. THE EXPENDABLES 3 is written by Creighton Rothenberger & Katrin Benedikt, who previously teamed on OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN, and Sylvester Stallone. Avi Lerner, Kevin King-Templeton, Danny Lerner and Les Weldon are producing THE EXPENDABLES 3. Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson and John Thompson are executive producing. Lionsgate will release THE EXPENDABLES 3 in North America and the UK on August 15, 2014.

In THE EXPENDABLES 3, Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables -- but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

The production will be overseen by Lionsgate’s Jason Constantine and Eda Kowan.

The first two installments of THE EXPENDABLES have grossed nearly $600 million in combined global box office.

P.S. There are a few BG paparazzi pics from the set, or rather what looks like base camp for the trailers and craft services, with Sly walking around and prop guys handling weapons. Don't feel like posting them but you can find them easily.

What a shit plot. Who the fuck wants to see the film bogged down with no-names and the precious screentime of the real action guys reduced even more. My Gran could come up with a better plot than that.

I agree. Elsie Shepka is a terrific screenwriter.

Well, if the tag line stays "Don't send a boy to do a man's job" you'd have to figure that the whole theme has to be old school vs. new school and that the old guys will prevail. A bit like Rocky IV.

Seems they scrapped that former storyline where the retired Expendables were to rescue the endangered captured young wolves... (and if that's the case they again churned out a new script well too quickly)

Oh, alright. To me, the "young action stars vs. the old" is a very obvious concept that my little nerdy brain has been fantasising about since I was about twelve. And I still do.
