The stunt was cool looking but the fact it wasn't like Snipes/Banderas/Statham or one of the core group doing it instead of Lutz was indeed a facepalm... because their definitely would have been a witty comeback to Sly's "stairs" comment instead it's just them trying to force badassery onto Lutz which he just can't pull off.

Lutz feels like very studio mandated casting.

Jox, I realize we still have two months before its release date, but can you confirm or at least give an idea at big Dolph's role will be this go round? Will it be as large as it was in EX2, or a little more limited like in EX1 to accomodate the new arrivals? I'm worried that it will be limited to only a couple scenes, considering the stills, trailers, etc. seem to show the same dress, etc. Just curious..

It's funny, I think Dolph got to do more with limited screen time in the first than being part of the team in the second.

Absolutely. But the first movie has a much worked out and deeper script in every way, and Dolph really had one of the best and most complex parts.

I'm not sure about EX3, but given the number of characters involved and what seems another "diet script" (despite Sly saying it's longer, doesn't seem as tight), I'm afraid it might be similar in this one. To be honest I don't think anybody will have much of a stretch apart from Sly of course (who has all the character's arc and big dialog), and Gibson who's gotta have something as the vilain. All the others are just fill-in characters (even what Statham is given isn't much flattering for the second billing name).

The thing is the writing of those EX films will never be as dense and thick as the first one. If EX2 was RAMBO II then EX3 might be the RAMBO III or ROCKY III/IV of the EXPENDABLES if you know what I mean, definitely not FIRST BLOOD or ROCKY I. Thing is Sly doesn't have the urge to be bold like with the first one which his baby "artistically", not it's his franchise. And because it has to be "bigger" each time, they have to spend much money and because they have to spend much money they can't take too many risks commercially... We'll see. I still feel this one could be refreshing superior to the second.

My hope is that PH got the tone right... I preferred the serious nature of the first film to the second even though the cast was juiced up in the sequel.

Oh, this is looking hell great! The action is modern. Like in FaF movies. I loved it! Thanks, Jox!

He's never been much highlighted in the EXPENDABLES trailers, and here they'd rather stretch the presence of guys like Snipes and Banderas.

Little disappointed in the fact that Dolph is barely even shown in this trailer, but I will say that this installment appears to have a much tighter script and story.

As much as I enjoyed EX2, the callbacks to one-liners get old pretty quickly. EX2 almost had the vibe of being rushed together quickly, especially in terms of story... For example, Van Damme's villain, Jean Vilain stealing plutonium. Not very original. How many times has that motif been used and applied to the sterotypical bad guy? EX3, on the other hand, appears to have a real arc to it, especially in terms of the villains and the new recruits. I get the feeling that characters won't be thrown in merely as window dressing and to wink at the audience (here's looking at you, Chuck Norris). It is apparent that each character serves a purpose in the overall story.

Of course I could be way off, but at least the trailer creates this vibe. :D
