The issue I have with the films is that (great as they are) they try and do too much, too many stars, trying to please everyone...

I think, (or what I would like!) for 4 is to have a smaller cast and a better story. That way some of the regulars and the stars can have more screen time and more fight time.
Is there an off switch to your mouth?

Well deserved box office failure indeed.

This movie was like slap in the face to me, so I am satisfied with those results.

Dolph with writers Creighton Rothenberger and partner/wife Katrin Benedikt
(no, Sly didn't really write the script, he just went along and gave his approvals with what they pitched to him)

Terrible. The crappy PG-13 action was like a symphony with no crescendo or a porno without the cum shots. The junior team achieved nothing more than reducing the guys I actually paid to see to glorified extras. That 45 minute centre section where they take over the movie was painful. Even Schwarzenegger said "Hurry up, I'm getting bored" during this section!

Ultimately what was the point of the film? Sly wanted revenge on Mel, who opened fire on the team only after they attacked him first? In any other action movie Mel's character would be the hero.

I will give the film this; Antonio Banderas' character may have started off as annoying, but the Banghazi speech, the revelations about his character, the small "You where listening.... thank you" where incredibly touching.

Exactly.

Which is funny and Mel kept joking he thought he was playing the hero.

About 6.6 million domestic this week-end for a total in 10 days of 27 million in the U.S., and $65 million worldwide (lacking figures from major territories like France and Germany though).

Interesting analogy:
The Expendables 3 is two hours-and-change of smashing old action figures against each other, always to destructive results. Sometimes the destruction is fun to behold. Most times, it’s not. Watching The Expendables 3 is not unlike watching someone else play with action figures: Hard to follow, pretty boring, and kind of embarrassing.

It’s the cinematic equivalent of revisiting an old stash of toys in the attic and dumping them out onto the floor for one last afternoon of nostalgia. The toys are creaky, their joints loose, at risk of falling apart if played with too roughly. But it doesn’t matter. The siren song of nostalgia is too powerful to not throw these G.I. Grandpa Joes against each other in a final rollicking round of playtime, before bringing them out to the yard sale, or putting them back on the shelf for good.

I don't subscribe to the ageist attitude to these films. If the actors are still playing their roles just fine and look believable during the action scenes, their age should be irrelevant.

Agreed with almost everything this video says. Instead of building up what an impossible threat the team are facing because this guy used to be one of them and the personal connection they just threw every name in the cast at the wall. Follow that with the generic, uninspired action scenes and you have a film that had nothing to offer action fans.

I personally think Harrison Ford was a lot of fun in this movie.

Update
590,362 admissions (making about $4 million gross I guess) in France on its first week, not that bad I say.
