And due to legal issues, the filmmakers weren’t even allowed to put Dolph Lundgren in the character’s trademark skull t-shirt.

LET'S SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT!
There were NO legal issues regarding the use of the skull t-shirt.
Marvel was actually owned by the New World Pictures studio, and the editors actually wanted a more prominent skull in the film... Maybe it was a mistake but it was an artistic decision, not a conflict of interest.

It's time for a long overdue update on the English edition of my book!
1/ Several publishing houses expressed their interest in the book, the publisher will be announced soon!
2/ "The devil is in the details". The English version is being expanded and edited to make it the definitive making of the original PUNISHER!
3/ More cast & crew members are being pursued to complete the interviews
4/ Renown directors and/or movie stars are being thought after to write a new foreword
5/ No release date but expect a release likely in the second half of 2018...

The Punisher is on this Film School Rejects list of the 52 best super hero movies (as n°32, better than Superman 2 or Blade 2) with an interesting take on the movie.
And he got some kind of aknowledgement from Lexi Alexander (director of Punisher War Zone, the best one after Dolph's imho).

Listen...nobody and I mean nobody loves Dolph Lundgren more than I do. He is a proper martial artist, a polyglot, a genius with a masters in chemical engineering, who quit MIT to become an actor...I would watch him recite the yellow pages

The Punisher Episode 1: 3 AM

- While neither of these DHS agents are Marvel Comics characters, having a subplot with officials looking into Frank Castle reminds me more than a little bit of Dolph Lundgren's vastly underrated Punisher movie from 1989.

The Punisher Episode 11: Danger Close

As danger knocks on Sarah's door, Frank takes his quest for vengeance to the next level with some help from an unexpected ally.

- OK, in a completely roundabout way, this episode, whether intentionally or uninentionally, actually has a reference to the 1989 Dolph Lundgren Punisher movie (which is the second best screen interpretation of the character after this show, do not @ me, it is the truth).

See, everyone remembers that chief among that movie's flaws was the fact that Frank Castle never wears the iconic skull (although he does have some cool little skull knives). However, in the original script, the intention was for him to spraypaint a skull onto a bulletproof vest before that final action scene. And in the comic adaptation of the movie, he does exactly that, although it never happened on screen. I have more details on the stuff you never saw in that movie right here.

Anyway, seeing Jon Bernthal spraypainting a skull onto some tactical armor totally made me point at the screen and yell "for Dolph!" OK, maybe I didn't do that, but you get the idea. And I have been reminded now that Thomas Jane's version of Frank also spray-painted the skull onto a bulletproof vest in the 2004 movie. I try not to think about that flick too much, although Jane was a great Frank.

Yesterday I re-watched Tim Burton's BATMAN for the first time in years (and on Blu-ray)... I was struck by how similarly structured and styled as THE PUNISHER it was, even some specific scenes and shot draw parallels between the two (the main difference being the $10 million / $40 million budgets), and they go well together in some ways. (As a reminder, THE PUNISHER was shot right before BATMAN -which started filming when the other was wrapping)
